Hah, Ditto to ie's comment on being Busy.
Clark Nova, I think I might head over to TLC, myself. Been missing online Forums in my life.
I find myself visiting this place every now and then. I really learned a lot from this place, and hope I wasn't too ignorant on subjects for everyone else.
Damn, things sure have changed past couple of years. Hope everyone is doing well in their affairs.
District 9 9/10 This sci-fi film definitely does not offer what you expect it to. Instead, it offers up something exceptionally original and incredibly intelligent. Sharto Copley's performance is absolutely spectacular especially when you take into account that this is his first major role and that he was acting to CGI creations for 3/4ths of the film. The CGI aliens are not phony looking and instead seem very real, which is the main reason why the film is so surprising. Definitely see this film even if you have doubts about it.
I gave it a 10/10 myself.
The last quarter of the movie had a lot of the same trappings of generic action movies, but generic action movies ain't nothin to fuck with.
I saw District 9 in September, Waltzing with Bashir in October (10/10) and that's pretty much it.

12 9/10 This Russian re-imagination of 12 Angry Men does well in its attempt to modernize the script and transform it into a Russian story instead of an American one. The acting of all the jurors is superb and the splicing of the war footage takes away from the monotony of the jury room. The film is probably a half hour too long and some of the religious undertones didn't sit right with me. But all fans of 12 Angry Men should definitely check this one out.

3:10 to Yuma (Delver Daves, 1957)
MAN, Van Heflin was weird-looking . Glenn Ford's awesome though, once again, as is the psychological showdown between the two in the hotel room. The rest of this movie isn't worth a second glance.

I love Brick. Johnson's new film, The Brothers Bloom, is worth a look as well. He's making the types of movies that don't get made much anymore. I'm a huge fan of his work.
Synecdoche, New York ?/10 So, I really don't know how to rate this.. Hoffman was totally incredible as expected, and Kaufman's writing is just on a whole other plane from anyone else working right now.. I just have a feeling I watched something much more brilliant than what I'm processing right now.. I'll have to give this one a few more watches, methinks..
I saw this a couple months ago and had a similar reaction. I should probably revisit it soon. Whether I liked it or not, it held my strict attention all the way through. My thoughts never wandered even for a second. That doesn't happen very often.

Re: Alfred Hitchcock « Result #49 on Jul 25, 2009, 7:42pm »
This is a bit of a lame question, but: Which Hitchcock movies are the most "essential"?
I'm thinking of watching Vertigo, Rear Window, North by Northwest and the Birds, but I'm not sure which other ones would be good to have seen, culturally. Which is to say, which of his movies were the most influential?
