I couldn't really think of how to respond. Seems like we've beat the A Clockwork Orange arguments down enough, but I did want to bring up that Neon Genesis Evangelion (episode 12) was able to boil down this whole argument into two lines: "Yet, this is a world that has been purified and purged of the original sin." "I'd rather live in a world with people, no matter how stained with sin." I still don't care for The Kubrick, but I think that's alright. We don't all enjoy the same movies, and I think that's perfectly acceptable. Just as long as you're careful with saying what is crap and what is just unenjoyable for you.

Maybe one of you could go more in-depth on what you found conventional about the film, since I really have seen nothing like that film before. I felt that overall, most of the action, like trying to get past a sniper, had been done in flms before. Same thing with some of the main characters that you have grown to love being shot down by the sniper. Overall, after such a fantastic beginning, the ending is such a let down.

Conventional? No way. In my mind.
It's not that much about what happens, it's how it happens. The sniper part thing could be put right into a horror film. The music, the camera work (zoom-ins anyone?) and all the other tricks Kubrick uses and puts into the film, makes this into some kind of a nightmare. I can, of course, only speak for myself, but I feel that in many war films, this whole sequence with the sniper would have put one of the soldiers, or the whole platoon, as big heroes trying to fight the sniper, describing the sniper as the devil himself/herself. (SPOILER WARNING) What Kubrick does in the film, and maybe espesially this sniper sequence, is that he first let us feel completely with these soldiers, and we, the viewer, wants revenge just as much as they do, when Cowboy has been shot. In the end, we, or at least I, feel for this sniper laying there on the ground, apparantly in great pain. There's so much thing about this sequence that just tells me 'unconventional', 'genious', 'nightmarish', and 'absorbing'.

You haven't seen Paths, cm? I saw it a few days ago, for the very first time, and it was very impressive. The combat scene(s) was amazing to watch; maybe even more impressive than those in saving Private Ryan! Updated list: A Clockwork Orange Full Metal Jacket - higher up (was beneath Barry Lyndon last time) Paths of Glory - new entry 2001: A Space Odyssey Eyes Wide Shut Barry Lyndon The Shining Dr. Strangelove Lolita

Magnolia Home Entertainment has announced Color Me Kubrick which stars John Malkovich as conman Alan Conway, who successfully passed himself off as the famed director Stanley Kubrick. The disc will be available to own from the 27th March, and should retail at around $26.98. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include an audio commentary (participants to be confirmed), some deleted scenes, and a making of featurette. The film sounds fantastic to me, I really look forward to seeing it.

I just can't bring myself to shell out so much money for a new set. I think I just may buy the old one to save some dough.

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey 2. Dr. Strangelove; Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 3. Full Metal Jacket 4. A Clockwork Orange 5. Eyes Wide Shut 6. The Shining
I currently only own Dr Strangelove, so I'm definitely going to be picking up a few of these. 2001 and Clockwork Orange especially, because those are the two movies of his that I really need to rewatch.
