Takashi Miike:
Films in rough order: Audition - Perfectly, masterfully orchestrated horror. Bizita Q - Vulgar, funny, bizarre and actually a good film which even manages to evoke a feeling of relief in the end. DOA2 - Nothing to do with the first dead or alive film - A film about a nostalogic hitman, great story about old friendships and life. Fudoh - A fun film and bags of style
The rest I've seen, city of lost souls, DOA final, ichi the killer and bird people are all ok ish to, but those are his best ^

Kubrick
1. 2001 - A masterpiece, but Clockwork Orange is close. 2. Clockwork Orange - Amazing, perfect 10/10 3. Full Metal Jacket - The best war film. 4. The Shining - Fantastic 5. Eyes Wide Shut - Great but not the best.
Those are the only films i have seen of his. I need to see more!

Quentin Tarantino
1. Pulp Fiction - A kickass movie. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a masterpiece but it's certainly clever. Reservoir Dogs is the only film that comes close 2. Reservoir Dogs - Very stylish, very entertaining little film with a ripper of a conclusion ("don't point that gun at my dad!") 3. Jackie Brown - Highly underappreciated. 4. Kill Bill: Volume Two - I found I got a lot more from this than Vol. 1. After watching the first film I was like "wow, I liked it when she chopped the dude's arm off." After watching this I was like: 'wow, what a well made film." 5. Kill Bill: Volume One - Don't kill me for this, but I feel this is his least accomplished film to date.

I definetly think Vol 1 is better. I think volume 2 kinda gets lost in the dialogue and is very uneven. When there is action it doesn't last long enough and the dialogue last way to long. I still LOVE Volume 2 but I think volume one is much more even than 2. But that is just me.

David Lynch 1. The Elephant Man: One of my favorites. It may be the most non-typical Lynch, but it`s just a wonderful film which has an important message. 2. OK, this is hard. #2 could go to so many, but I have picked Blue Velvet: A mysterious journey into the dark, with some brilliant performances, ecspesially by Dennis Hopper. This one explores the utterly dark personalities of our society under a surface that looks pretty nice. A masterpiece, though a bit flawed. 3. Mulholland Dr.: Magic filmmaking. This one is so brilliant, though I don`t understand half of the picture. But it`s the genious of nearly every scene that makes the whole so compelling to watch. Extremely well-directed by a modern master of cinema. 4. Lost Highway: In many ways, quite the same style as Mulholland Dr. But this is maybe even more hard to understand. A great film, none the less. 5. Wild at Heart: A good film, but something essential is missing. Some elements of this is clearly from a highly skillful magician, but the whole seems a bit artificial, and the result is not as good as I had hoped for. But I need to see this again soon, because it may be that the mix of the "ordinary" and "wierd" got a bit too much the first time. But understand me correctly: Still a damn fine movie! Haven`t seen more of his films yet, but I have Dune on dvd, and are planning to get hold to Eraserhead quite soon. Oh, I forgot Twin Peaks! Should have been #2 if it were a movie (Haven`t seen the film, just watched season 1) Was there any more this time? Nah, I don`t think so.

That's how I felt after watching the two back to back, but after a few more viewings I found I liked the second a lot more.

And me. Ya, it kinda gets lost in the dialogue. But Vol 1 gets lost in the fight scenens. Vol 2 is way more even IMO.

I like vol.2 best. Both are great, but in a funny way, I don`t like that I like them. Anyway, vol.2 is better because it has a bit more depth.

Vol. 2 SMOKES Vol. 1. Vol. 1 only looked like a Tarantino film, whereas, Vol. 2 FELT like a Tarantino film, but new. I don't know, plus it combined it's kung fu film influence with a speghetii western influence, so I like that better too. Vol. 1 is still great, but Vol. 2 is a better film.

OK, guess I'll start with Kubrick, or at least rank all the Kubrick films I've seen:
1) Dr. Strangelove (greatest comedy ever made...gotta love the subtle humor and Sellers' legendary performance(s) ) 2) 2001: A Space Odyssey 3) A Clockwork Orange 4) Full Metal Jacket (superb first half, too conventional in the second half) 5) The Shining (suitably creepy at points, but overrated in my book)
