I know there are some fans of this man, and his films, and there is no thread. Thoughts on him? What is your favorite film? What have you seen from him?

I really like his stuff. I haven't seen Zodiac yet, but I have seen all of his other films. Alien 3 is underrated, and is a good movie, just not what people were expecting. Se7en is absolutely amazing. The Game is fun, but pretty empty. Fight Club is his best, and, regardless of what some people might think, is still one of my favorite movies. Panic Room, unfortunately, isn't very good.

I agree with everything you say apart from Panic Room... It was decent. Hell, its gotta be good, you wanna know why?....................... .......... ... .......... Its got Jodie Foster in it.
Anyways, I have yet to see Alien 3 and the game. Oh yea, and Zodiac is one of his best... right up there next to Fight Club.

I think he is one of if not the best new director of today. Se7en is one of my favorite films of all time, the atmosphere and the story combined with a well written script and superb acting make a perfect film. Fight Club is damn good too, but it is overrated by many. The Game and Panic Room were both decent. Alien 3 sucks balls, I'm sorry but it does. I still haven't seen Zodiac, but I look forward to it.

Zodiac is quite a depart from his other movies, in that it isnt nearly as dark or moody, but rather really cool in the way it realistically portrays its characters. It has a perfect ending.

I may need to eventually rewatch Se7en, but when I saw it, I chalked it up to being one of the most overhyped movies of all time. I have nothing positive to say about it, and hell, I don't even mind violent movies so yeah, we'll be moving on... The thing is, Panic Room is good. 8/10 good. Good acting and unfortunately it was realistic. Sure, most kids might like Fight Club because everyone else does, but based on my last viewing of it, I thought it was still really good. Gets you thinking, gets you going, and that's why it's good stuff. Haven't seen the others. Overall, he's done some decent work but he's not on my list of favorite directors.

Exactly, I really hate how many people say they like Fight Club but don't even really like it, or like it because there is fighting. The film is well-made, and does get you thinking, like ie said. It even holds up on repeated viewings. That ending blows me away. I want to see Zodiac, but I am not going to kill someone to see it.
I saw all his other stuff, Se7en is really good, but I didn't think it was perfect, it doesn't blow me away like it does everyone else, although it is really good.

Rewatched Fight Club today, and it got me thinking: this David kid is just really too obsessed with making "dark" movies. The three I've seen of his movies all look exactly the same - besides the background, everything else looks the same; it's like a band that sounds exactly the same on three albums - and since Se7en was probably number three, and after seeing more episodes of Law and Order: Predictable Intent than anyone should ever be forced to see, it just looked equally parts generic (atmosphere) and generic (crime drama). See where I'm coming from? It might have been really snazzy at the time, but I came at it from a different angle than most everyone else did, and so it's neither nostalgic nor unique, to me. At least with a movie like Anatomy of a Murder, you can acknowledge some footprinting on the genre, but what did Se7en do? Can't say. Not sure why I like Panic Room as much as I do, though, so I can't comment on that. But since I'm speaking about Fight Club here, here's the score: still a 10/10, although it has a few things I'm not quite satisfied with. The aforementioned obsession with cooooool dark, man, and at times it gets a little too carried away with being itself, but overall, not too bad at all. I didn't even really notice the fighting too much this time around. It's like smoking in movies; it was more for the effect than the actual "oh, who's gonna win?!" Besides, I'm not into guys, so it wasn't appealing on that level.

Besides, I'm not into guys, so it wasn't appealing on that level. Hmm, his films are dark, but that is just his style, he does different things in each, in fact, was Panic Room super dark or something, it didn't really seem like it. Was it really like Se7en-dark? I can see the comparison between Fight Club and Se7en though, since they have similar looks, but completely different kinds of stories. I wouldn’t count Alien the Third in this, although, if I remember correctly, it was kinda dark, same as the other films in the series, since it wasn't really his film, it was a sequel. And I haven't seen Zodiac, so malicious or someone who has would have to comment about the style in that. I think malicious did say it felt different than his others, so maybe the style is different. Glad you give Fight Club a ten still, I definitely do as well. I have seen it like 4-6 times, which is enough to know probably. The performances are great, are they not? Ed Norton is one of the best actors today. Nope, I meant the original one! With Jodie Foster. And why didn't you like it?

I can't remember, I just didn't. I think when I saw it I didn't have the ability to look at films critically yet, so it was just on a y/n basis.

I enjoyed certain parts of it (Panic Room), and I loved the setting, but the film was not merely as good as, say, Seven and Fight Club. There was something with the whole thing that just felt much more... "ordinary"... than the before-mentioned. Too long time since I saw it, though, so I don't remember particular weaknesses...
I thought Alien 3 was great, btw. In comparison to the others of the series, it's definitively closest to the first (in terms of style), but it stands pretty well on it's own, as a film entirely different from the others. If I remember correctly, the cinematography was great, letting the already dim, dystopian world get a suitable look and atmosphere.

I've started Fight Club, but never finished it. It was my ex-boyfriend's favourite movie of all time, and we started watching it together but we stopped for some reason and when we broke up I just didn't feel like watching it anymore.

Oh, no, I agree 100%. It definitely feels more mainstream and just plainer than the other films. I can't quite put my finger on why either, but it so does. I would also have to re-watch it to find out why that is. I've started Fight Club, but never finished it. It was my ex-boyfriend's favourite movie of all time, and we started watching it together but we stopped for some reason and when we broke up I just didn't feel like watching it anymore. I am irritated by people who say their favorite movie is Fight Club since that is basically just saying you just like those kind of movies, like ones that a lot of guys who think they like good movies like. Do you know what I mean? I mean, obviously, someone could like movies like us, and also call Fight Club their favorite, but most males who watch halfway decent movies call it, or movies like it, their favorite. You definitely need to finish watching it though, you would probably dig it.

I just haven't felt like it, not because of some emotional trauma or something, I'll probably feel like it later on. I'm focusing on other things right now.
