Forum Suggestions?

Yo, MFCeers, Dan the C-Man and I have talked a little bit about adding a new Philosophy/Thinking board to the forums.

The basic idea behind it would be to just discuss - in a hopefully relaxed, civil and non-aggressive manner - various things. Included would be philosophers (traditional thinkers like Einstein and Freud to people you wouldn't normally think of, like Bruce Lee), concepts (from common ones like Respect and Communication to, if those go well, more controversial concepts like Affirmative action and possible roots of racism), general things (not so much philosophical ideas as much as just little observations about life) and whatever else comes up.


Feel free to mention any suggests you have, or if you think it's an awesome idea. I would like being able to talk about some concepts I've been thinking about for a while, and I'm sure others have thought about as well. And if we keep it civil, and don't debate (as in, I'm right, you're wrong), then I think it should be a lot of fun and you could just learn something.

I do have a lot to say about racism and such, and I think I could have some others things to say too.

We just better start out slow, to get a feeling for things. Racism is a big topic to tackle, and a lot of people are sensitive.

Thus why I was considering that we could make a log-in, member's only section for such controversial topics.


More suggestions and approvals and we might get this mother set up over the weekend (at the earliest).

It has now been 7 months since the start of the forum! Any suggestions? I am thinking about doing some kind of clean-up, where I will start a lock "Archive" section of the forum, where I will put locked/done threads that you can still read if you want. And I may add some features to the site as well. But do you have any suggestions?

The Philosophy board wasn't very interesting to most people, but that's okay.


I might suggest a title like "Recycle Bin" for the locked archive section. Not to be offensive toward the threads, but in reality, they're being put there because they're dead, rotting, and starting to make Uwe Boll's movies smell just a little bit better.

I added tons of new features. Just look around, you will see a bunch of things. And go to your "Profile" page and right by "Modify Profile" you will see something like "Install Shop" do it, you can use it to buy certain things on the forum. It is quite cool!


EDIT: Have fun with the "Arcade!" I am obsessed with playing Pacman on there. Make sure to tell me what you like and don't about these adds.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be cool if we could leave messages when we "exalt" or "smite" a person, so that if people are getting nepped they can be told exactly why that is. I've seen this done on other forums, but I'm not sure if you can do it on this engine.

I like this idea, because who ever gave me minus four Karma points really pissed me off during a bad weekend, so I kind of want to know who did that.


Yeah, I tried the whole thing that's down now and it just forwarded to the Arcade.. If I want playable web games, though, I would go to Digg. Nice thought, though.

How about an email notification when someone responds to one of your posts.

I think I can do that. I will personally email you when someone responds. I will send it to your email address you signed up with, and I will provide a link to the post. And what do you mean by the last part? Do you want to upload something onto the site from your computer?

Most forum sites I have been on have an automated email response sent saying that someone has responded to their post. Not a personal email sent.

Like the avatar pic it asks for a url. I am not real tech savvy. So I just save pictures to my computer.

The mail bit would be a forum setting, under Profile and Modify Profile. There's . Like what subgirl said, it'll send you a generic response when you receive a reply to a thread you've created. It probably could also work for if you just go into a thread and make a reply and you get sent emails saying that there are additional replies, but I just kind of wing it.


For the avatar picture, you can upload your picture to ImageShack, which is where most of the generic images on this forum are hosted. You just click Browse, find the image file, and then click the "Host It!" button. Right click on the image and then go to Properties. There may be two URLs, so make sure that the one you use for your avatar looks something to this effect:

Also, make sure it doesn't have any ? or = kind of business in the URL, or else it won't work on the forums.

Perhaps a sub board should be made in the 'ART' section for photographs. Then everyone can post their photos there rather than in the general bit and discussion of famous photographs can be posted there also

That's actually a pretty good idea.

Photography sub forum, with threads for advice on photographing, famous photographs, photographers, and a thread for each person here who plays around with photography. Lots of people here seem to have digital cameras.

On this type of forum at least, karma is a passive-aggressive way of showing what people think of the person in question. Once per hour, you can Exalt a person besides yourself, and that would give them a +1. So if I exalt you right now, your karma goes up from 2 to 3. Conversely, if I would have clicked Smite instead of Exalt, then your karma would have went from 2 to 1. You can also get the criterionmaster to adjust your karma if you're really worried, although I think we've moved away from the more outlandish numbers for the moment.
