A staggering work of existential science fiction, The Face of Another dissects identity with the sure hand of a surgeon. Okuyama (Yojimbo’s Tatsuya Nakadai), after being burned and disfigured in an industrial accident and estranged from his family and friends, agrees to his psychiatrist’s radical new experiment: a face transplant, created from the mold of a stranger. As Okuyama is thus further alienated from the strange world around him, he finds himself giving in to his darker temptations. With unforgettable imagery, Teshigahara’s film explores both the limits and freedom in acquiring a newfound persona, and questions the notion of individuality itself.

No thoughts on this film? Hasn't anyone seen it? Well, even if you haven't, which cover do you prefer? Again, no commentary on this version, but one on MoC. Features on the MoC version are as follows: Restored transfer and audio Exclusive full-length audio commentary by Tony Rayns New English subtitle translation 20-page booklet with an essay by David Toop Original trailer Gallery containing rare production stills and artwork RSDL disc (DVD9), R2

BeeD you know nothing. The MoC cover is better. But both are fantastic. This movie looks great, I must see it.

The film looks amazing and the Criterion cover is so much more professional looking than the MOC one. The MOC one looks like it was drawn by a child.

Actually, I'm going to have to disagree with blackmoses on this one.
The Criterion Collection cover has "Insta-Buy" written all over it, where as the Master of Cinema cover has "you know what? This does look more like what the movie looks like, but it's presented in a manner that is somewhat unappealing" written off to the side of it.
The guy in the CC cover is wearing briefs on his head, but it just looks cool. Too bad the movie probably doesn't look like that, I guess, probably, maybe, I'm tired.
