Manhattan is possibly his greatest. Though even his minor films are excellent or at least enjoyable.

I love Annie Hall but I think its a bit to wordy and at times annoying. Love and death is good but a bit of a mixed bag. One minute slapstick, next minutes jokes I didn't get I want to see these Allen films soon: Radio days purple rose of cairo deconstructing harry hannah and her sisters stardust memories crimes and misdemeanours Their are many I have to see, I went through a phase of his films and then stopped because he can get to much I think.

I've just seen for the first time: - Match Point (2005) 3.5/5 - Not the best nor the usual WA film, some good situations in this Hitchcockian film but otherwise it's above OK. - Love And Death (1975) 5/5 - My currently favorite WA film, this is so hilariously funny, and I have a weakness for 18th century films. I saw some really Buñuelish moments in this film! - Zelig (1983) 4/5 - Wonderful and witty "documentary" by WA about a human camelion who travels all around and meets various famous people in the 1920-30s. I'm currently getting into Woody Allen, and he's a really talented guy. I think Husbands and Wives is up next!

My new favorite dude!
I have seen:
* What's Up Tiger Lily? (5/10) Pointless and far from entertaining. * Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (6/10) Some great moments, but not too great on the whole. * Sleeper (9/10) So so good! * Annie Hall (10/10) Amazing! One of the best films I've seen! * Match Point (9/10) A well constructed, extremely entertaining thriller. Great stuff.

I just kind of stumble across Woody Allen movies. I don't really try too hard to watch them, or go too far out of my way to see them. I think he'd like that. I just happened upon Bullets Over Broadway on the Sundance channel. The things Allen writes about are really strange to me, so for the most part I was kind of on autopilot, but it was enjoyable enough. And then a while back, I stepped in about a half-hour in to Take the Money and Run. Solid idea for a comedy, and for the most part, it was effective. I'll continue to just stumble into Woody Allen movies. I've heard good things about a lot of his movies, but you know, I think he would be just too worried over the little stresses like whether I got my money's worth and whether I can watch the movie and still have enough time to get the DVD back. I think. So, for now, I've just been enjoying his work at a quiet and slow pace.

A revival of this thread took place in the seen any good movies lately thread: yeah, i understand too...i mean, it's pretty much impossible to put something like sleeper above, say, annie hall or manhattan or crimes and misdemeanors...they're just too different. i myself found sleeper to be piss-your-pants funny, but out of the 6 woody allen films i've seen, it'd probably be the last...but certainly not least. hell, here's how i'd rank 'em: 1) crimes and misdemeanors 2) annie hall 3) manhattan 4) match point 5) hannah and her sisters 6) sleeper so for any of you familiar with his movies, what should i watch next? Go for some more comedies. I suggest Take The Money And Run and Zelig. Ooh, ooh, try Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex, But Were Afraid To Ask. Hilarious film! I am surprised you didn't recommend Stardust Memories, I would go with that. I think you will really like it. And I also think Sleeper is one of the funniest movies ever. Take The Money And Run is one of the best mockumentaries I've seen. It's just done so well. What's Up, Tiger Lily? looks hilarious, based off of this quote alone: "By putting in new scenes and rearranging the order of existing scenes, he completely changed the tone of the film from a James Bond clone into a comedy about a secret egg salad recipe." How is What's Up, Tiger Lily? edit: Looks like some people don't like it.

I'll take the liberty to post a couple of these fantastic lines from Crimes and Misdemeanors:
"I don't know from suicide, y'know. Where I grew up in Brooklyn we were too unhappy to commit suicide."
"Last time I was inside a woman was when I visited the Statue of Liberty."

My temporary Woody Allen experiances:
1. Love And Death 2. Annie Hall 3. Crimes And Misdemeanors 4. Play It Again, Sam 5. Mahattan 6. Husbands And Wives 7. Sleeper 8. Sweet And Lowdown 9. Zelig 10. Match Point 11. Scoop
Plus I've seen his screenplay-contributed films What's New, Pussycat and Casino Royale. Both are hilarious I think. ;D
And I own but have not seen:
Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex Bullets Over Broadway Interiors Small time Crooks

anybody else watch Family Guy tonight? much of it was a send-up of Woody Allen movies. I counted parodied scenes from annie hall, manhattan, and crimes and misdemeanors. there was probably more, but i couldn't notice. Good stuff ;D

hmm...well, the episode revolved around Stewie and his new girlfriend...so there was a scene where they were in the park making snide observations about various people, much like how alvy and annie did in Annie Hall...they then sat looking at the Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise (from Manhattan, obviously). Later on, at a party, stewie's girlfriend introduced him to a child actor ex-boyfriend who frequently spoke "ideas for a film" into a tape recorder (if you've seen Crimes and Misdemeanors, the reference is hilarious and more than obvious). They even got Alan Alda to do the voice ;D
Gah, i'm probably the only person at my college who actually understood all the references in the episode. kinda sad, really...

OMG, i know what you are talking about!!! I did notice those, and I thought that sounded like Alda. This was one of the best family guys this season anyways, the part where the dude was hitting his wallet into that other guys face telling him to look at his children was so priceless.
