You know it, I know it. Law and Order just uses a template for each episode, replacing the names, the crimes, and that's about it.
Here's the template, give or take some things.
- People stumble across a body - Commercial
- Investigation - Slight twist - Commercial
- Investigation - More investigation - Commercial
- Investigation - Major plot twist - Commericial
- When you realize the show is back on, they find the suspect, and one of the cops spends ten minutes cracking the suspect until the suspect admits guilt. - Justice has been served.
So, what do you think of Law and Order?

My parents are both lawyers, so they never watch it. They think its a bad representation of actual lawyers and do not wish to work all day and come home and watch what just feels like more work. I watched it once or twice. Poor show.

Yeah, pretty much.
I thought it was decently entertaining at first, until I realized: hey wait a minute, didn't I just watch this episode before? Then I realized that it was about as cookie cutter as you could get.

CSI is exactly the same as Law and Order, but with science and fancy CGI work, instead of good old fashioned door-beat-down investigations.

I haven't seen a single episode of either show, nor will I ever. They don't interest me at all, except that Tarantino did direct some of the CSI episodes (maybe?).

Well, that kind of got me interested in wondering what episodes he directed, but then again, the effort it would take for me to watch a couple of episodes of a boring show with interesting direction doesn't seem like that great of a deal to me.

I picked up the first season of Criminal Intent from the charity shop I work in, only becasue it has the excellent Kathryn Erbe in one of the leading roles. It's certainly formulaic but it's nicely acted by Vincent D'Onofrio and Erbe and it's always entertaining. Miles from my favourite show though.

I hate that programme. CSI's breakdown (commercial, twist, investigation)is pretty much the same, but I enjoy it to bits! I'd spend my life watching that show if they could make enough, fast enough. I love all the cool scientific stuff! I know it isn't like that in real life (or so people tell me), but it's a really nice show, in my opinion. And CSI has had some pretty sick bad guys, too. That's fun, isn't it? CSI is actually different to L&O, it's very entertaining, and it captivates me for a whole hour, which is more that I can say for any other television programme these days. L&O is sooooo booooring when compared to CSI. Really.

If you took everything you said and flipped the two shows around, I'd agree with you.

You've got to watch yourself some CSI! Make up your own mind. I think it's a great fictional show. As long as you don't take this stuff seriously, and don't think that the producers are, it's a frigging awesome show.

If you took everything you said and flipped the two shows around, I'd agree with you. Well then we can agree to disagree, because I'm not going to. Usually I'm very easily influenced, but this is one thing I'll back forever. What makes Law and Order better that CSI, in your opinion? I think CSI is more visually entertaining, and it has more different elements as well. And the episodes do differ from each other, so don't pull that out yo' hat. Your opinion?

I personally find forensic science and the like very boring. I just prefer the old-fashioned detective story thing going on in Law and Order. I'm not a huge fan, and it is extremely cliche, but it's good for blowing off an hour. I can certainly see someone liking CSI better, I just am not very interested in it.

I can respect that, thanks for not bashing my show, and so I won't bash yours.
CSI is a cliche concept, but it has managed to break the mould of that cliche. That's why I enjoy it. And forensic science is orgasmic for me.
