I just watched the first episode a few hours ago. Really great. I'm going to be buying the box set soon. Has anyone else here seen this series, or even heard about it? If not, it's a bit like Farscape (if you've heard of that series... ;D) but with more of a western and down-to-earth approach than just a bunch of awesome looking aliens. In other words, it's a sci-fi show and might be worth your while. After you finish Firefly, then you can check out Serenity, which you may have seen already.

Yes I have seen Firefly (it was my pick of the week a while back) It's actually nothing like Farscape, really. But, still Firefly is one of my favorite shows. It's kinda sci-fi/western/character drama. Hard to classify beyond its obvious trappings. Glad you liked it, ie.

Well, it kind of had the same feeling to me, but yeah, there are more differences than similarities. Here are some of my thoughts on the first episode: The first episode looked like it had a longer length than the other episodes, which I thought was a good idea.
In some respect, it the first episode felt like a full length movie in some regard, although I might be thinking that mainly because it was about an hour and a half in length. It also could work independently of the rest of the series, although I don't know how successful that venture might be.
I also liked the really large cast, although I think that waiting, and not introducing all of the major characters in the first episode may have been a good idea. There are the obvious contrasts, so it might have disrupted that, but getting to know nine different characters at once can be difficult. Overall, I look forward to checking out more of the series, and I recommend that others give it a shot as well. C-Man should be giving it a go any week now.

I don't think he will, actually. I've been telling him to see it for a long, long time. Plus, he may be too snobbish to enjoy it now.

This is true, but you never know.
At worst, the Cster doesn't like it. I doubt that he/you will talk about it much if that's the case, so there's very little problem.
Best case? Another Browncoat.

I will check out the show sometime, but it may take me a while. It doesn't look like my kind of show...

Well, just make sure to give it a shot sometime.
Has anyone else heard of this show, or seen any of it? If not, why not?

I bought the box set last year, but haven't put it in until today when I rewatched it. Wow, I forgot how well done it was. (So much for being a cranky old cactus.)

Yes! I have seen firefly, my best friend loves it to pieces! I've seen most of the episodes and my favourite is probably the one where they robbed a hospital I think it was to get some such medicine. My recollection is a little vague, havn't seen any of it for some time now. Oh yeah and the episode where they go to the town in the sticks and one of the guys is a hero for some reason. Heh I have the recollecion of what it was but not of any specifics like character names.....

Not much else to say on the topic right now though.

Heh no not really. Tragic that it was cancelled, could have been a good show for more seasons.

True, but then you look at it like too much of a good thing, or where it hits the point that things just go downhill and it's almost better that things played out as they did. We got a movie out of it. Plus, I'm starting to think Joss Whedon is a bit of an asshat, because whenever he makes jokes to the camera, they're never funny, and he's not good with facts, and that's not exactly the kind of guy I'd donate lots of money to, even if he lucked out with a good show.

Haha it seems like you're bitter and creating justification for the fact you aren't pissed when you actually secretly are that it didn't run for longer Well, thats what I'd be doing because I think it's a right shame

I'm fine with the length it's at now. Fits on four DVDs, easy to watch, et cetera.

This is probably the longest I have ever bored something without bothering to even watch a second of it. I really liked the first episode (even though it was feature-length time). I can't wait to watch the rest.
