terrible ending.
i understand that the last time they filmed (2 years ago!?) they had NO idea they were filming the end of the series. so, they had to do whatever they could think of with the clips they had in possession. still they should have been able to come up with something better.
something probably happened in that scene that would have been the SEASON ending....and they just cut it out and left us guessing as to what it meant for the series ending.
weak way to end one of the greatest shows ever.

i've been reading that the ending was 'masterminded' by series creator (Chase) and that's how he wanted it to end. tony glancing up at the opening door. wow, stunning bit of 'planning'
i still say he used the scraps on the editing floor and tried to rig up something that would leave it open for the viewer's interpretation.
that kind of ending (viewer to make up his/her own ending) is sometimes ok, but it's TOO often a copout for 'i'm not clever enough to offer ANY ending WHATSOEVER with my writing skills, so let the dumbass audience make it up'
no matter what, this ending didn't leave me wondering 'what happened or will happen?' - it left me feeling let down...and pissed. i hope you are right about a possible movie down the road. soon i hope as tony ain't getting any younger or thinner.
not sure what would have been a fitting ending...or partial ending...just know that that wasn't it.
(screw an ending...how about a decent CONTINUING where we'd all be arguing about how we KNOW what happened...instead of complaining)

I would have been satisfied with Meadow just coming in and the show ending with the family eating. But Chase couldn't even do that and what was up with Paulie?

The Sopranos creator David Chase maintained Monday that he did not leave the final episode of the series unsettled so he could return with a theatrical movie tying up loose ends. In an interview with the New Jersey Star Ledger, the "hometown" newspaper of Tony Soprano, Chase said that he hasn't thought much about a possible movie. "I never say never. An idea could pop into my head where I would go, 'Wow, that would make a great movie, ' but I doubt it." Chase declined to discuss the final scene, saying, "I have no interest in explaining, defending, reinterpreting, or adding to what is there."
