Okay, so as I told your friend, and mine, andruini, I finally got around to seeing the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
I bought it as a two-pack, made by Catcom and packaged with Nosferatu. If you want the worst possible transfer in the history of the universe - I'm even going to use this to debate a friend of mine who thinks a horror pack of his has a terrible transfer because the audio hisses - then you should get anything by Catcom.
The audio quality was not that bad, except when the music played hit a fairly high note, then it was static and hiss and all sorts of terrible sounds.
The visual quality was horrible, my friends and not exactly neighbors.
First of all, they did not transfer it properly, so most of the time it was shifted off to the left and down about 10%.
Second of all, it was like watching a movie on a Game Boy. If you've never played a Game Boy before, here's what I mean: the contrast was limited to all of about four colors. White. Not-white. Black. Not-black.
Third, this all translated to me not being able to understand shit. I vaguely could say I saw the movie, but when I read the plot summary over at Wikipedia, I realized I didn't know that half of what they said went on... actually went on. And, I can actually follow along with movies too, so I'm not incompetent.
The kicker was that a reliable friend of mine said that most transfers of the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari were pretty good.
So, all in all, I think I saw this movie.
Where did you see the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, if you have seen it, and, what'd you think of it?
