I'm sorry, I'm not going to do anything fancy for this discussion. I'm just going to lay it flat: I was not impressed. I was going to go into detail about why I was not impressed, but I'd rather just have you tell me why you were impressed. Make you do the work. If you want to address a specific area, I would suggest characters / people. The plot's there, the direction's there, so don't worry as much about those. Go, now.

I saw it at my local video store but I didn't watch it because it had Tom Hanks in it. I believe the only Tom Hanks flick I was unfortunate enough to watch was Saving Private Ryan... oh GOD, I know not to make that mistake again.

I thought the Green Mile was good. Not, you know, Top 10, greatest movie ever, most culturally significant movie you'll ever watch in the history of movie cinema. But it was decent enough, and there were even parts of the movie where you didn't even see Tom Hanks and think oh, that's Tom Hanks. And when I watched Forrest Gump a few years ago, I thought it was decent enough. But yeah, I couldn't get behind Tom Hanks in Apollo 13. In fact, the only thing that actually gave me any bit of emotion was when Kevin Bacon's character, who we barely know and have very little sympathy toward, gets news that he has been chosen for the Apollo 13 mission. Right when he goes down to do his Wooo! scream, a bug that had been flopping around the screen for a little bit suddenly lands on the part of the screen where is towel was. I literally could not stop laughing, or even chuckling occasionally, for the next few minutes. Oh, it was hilarious! So, um, any other thoughts from anyone?

I like this movie, but it's pretty overrated.

But, I mean, can you tell me what you liked about it? Maybe help me see what I missed?

I don't know. I found it entertaining. I think Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon were good in it. It's an entertainment picture. If you weren't entertained, I don't think you're missing much.

That makes sense. I'll just need to decide to do with this DVD... sure, I bought the two-disc special edition off Amazon for $9, which isn't really that much, but it's not like I can really return it. One time I really should have borrowed it from the library I guess.

I actually think the movie is pretty good; I am not one of those people that HATE Tom Hanks or Ron Howard, in fact I like them both. I liked Tom Hanks a lot in Catch Me If You Can and Forrest Gump. I love Gump, so much fun with like 10 of my favorite songs EVER made in it. It is fun to watch and it's not like it isn't well made, it has moments of greatness. The way they insert Hanks into all the old footage and stuff is cool. And I think Howard has done some fun films.
I think Apollo 13 is like an 8/10, but I haven't seen it in a while. It was just an entertaining film with good performances.

I gave Apollo 13 a 5/10.
A bit low, but 5/10 is my average for movies that I didn't really care for but were decent enough. You know, like the director put in a good effort, but I just couldn't get behind it too much.
