Rocky is great despite what most people think. Rocky II is pretty bad, Rocky III and IV are fun films, Rocky V is plain awful, I still wanna see Rocky Balboa.

Rocky is a great movie. Rocky II is really good, too. Rocky III is fun. Rocky IV is terrible. Rocky V has its moments, but it's not all that great. Rocky Balboa is really good.

I enjoy every entry of the series on some level. Tim is too harsh on Rocky IV; it's a great music video!
In all seriousness, though, I think each one decreases incrementally in quality, with the exception of Rocky Balboa. It's probably better than IV or V. Regardless, I like all of them somewhat.

I don't think I've seen Rocky! I remember watching the film with that guy from A-team, though. And that film, or was it the same, with Dolph Lundgren or something... I had a good time with those in my childhood, so the memories are filled with positiviness. I watched the first 30 minutes of Rocky ('76) some weeks ago, though, but got interrupted, and since I was at another's house, I have not been able to catch it up. But what I saw was pretty good. Crazy thing is, I begin to like this Stallone dude more and more. I cant believe it! Before I hated him like the plague. Now, after watching Rambo: First Blood for the very fist time, I begin to appreciate some of his acting abilities.
Dan: Why do do bother signing your name in every post?

Kiddo:
Mr. T's in Rocky III, Lundgren is in IV.
When I first started writing online and posting on forums, I just kind of wrote everything in the same format that I did casual letters, which included signing my name with a little dash at the end. I know it isn't necessary, but it's force of habit at this point, and at the ripe old age of nineteen (going on twenty), I'm too set in my ways to change.

I posted this on another forum, but it can also be answered here.
"When I want to watch light movies I tend to watch movies I actually enjoy watching, like Basket Case, Dazed and Confused, or Ghost World. Not these films, I don't see the appeal really. Well I kinda do, maybe if for some reason I wanted to enjoy laughing at them in some sort of “80's marathon of crap” then that I could watch, but other than that I don't really see what it is you guys like about these. Enlighten me, please."
Anyone who likes any of these films, please tell me what makes them good, or why people like them so much.

First of all, remember the first film was made before Stallone was famous. He wrote, pitched, and starred in the film. And with a shoestring budget and a simple, yet endearing story, he succeeded. Its still a great film, no matter how much you don't wanna like it.
Its the epitome of the underdog story. In each film except the fifth one really, Rocky is the underdog going against someone who is supposedly bigger and better than him. And well, most of the time he beats the adversity and wins the fight. Its just the American dream.
Plus I love boxing. I keep up on the top fighters and I watch the top fights. The fighting and training in the Rocky films may be the same every time. But its still fun to watch. They may not be the best films of all time, but they are just part of American life.

So, should I just watch Rocky I and Rocky Balboa? How 'bout some Mr. T action and watch the third one?
At this point, the fewest number of Rockys is the only route I want to take.
So, are there any overwhelming reasons to see II, IV or V?

II, not really. I will tell you the movie's plot in three words if you really want me to. IV MUST be seen. Its just so bad its good and it contains some of the funniest dialogue committed to screen. Avoid V at all costs, just think bad Don King imitations. The original is a great movie, through and through, III is fun if only for Mr. T and Eye of the Tiger, and I haven't seen the sixth one, but I've generally heard from all that it is a pretty damn good film for a 5th sequel.

Put the plot of Rocky II in a {spoiler} tag {/spoiler}.
Thanks. (especially for the quick reply)
I think what I'll do is watch either Rocky I or Rocky VI first, then watch Rocky III eventually, then the others if I'm able to. Some order like that.

Rocky beats Apollo. Thats pretty much it, its got some sappy romantic shit and a training montage thrown in. But overall, whole film summed up in three words. Go in chronological order if you can, its more fun.

see Rocky IV if you wanna see Rocky beat Communism. that's about it. otherwise, as far as i'm concerned, the only ones worth watching are Rocky and Rocky Balboa (for the uninitiated, that's the first one and the most recent )

I really liked the sixth movie. A great sendoff for Rocky.
