I'm doing this in school, and I'd just like to know: Romeo and Juliet (Franco Zeffirelli; 1968) vs. Romeo + Juliet (Baz Luhrmann; 1996) I'll post my thoughts later, we watched both.

Zeffirelli is decent, Luhrmann is shit other than the visuals.

They are both pretty piss poor movies in my opinion.

Zeferelli's version is decent but dated, and Luhrmann's is just plain goofy and ridiculous.
the only literal Shakespeare screen adaptation that's really done it for me is Branagh's Hamlet.

Oh my God, in case you didn't see, Romeo + Juliet is on my most hated films ever list, whereas Romeo and Juliet is just a good, but like beed said, dated movie. It is worthy enough for watching though, at least it was better than doing school work . But really, the performances were decent, and there was nudity, which doesn't happen at school much. My vote goes for Romeo and Juliet.

I hated Romeo and Juliet. One thing I can say for Romeo + Juliet is that it preserved much more of the original script. It didn't seem right in the type of film though, but I like Baz Luhrmann's better. Zeffirelli's is the stupid one, in my opinion.

I have been dying to see that film for a while now. Ever since I met the director.

He was fucking hilarious, and so cool. I got to see his film Terror Firmer on the big screen with him there, and it was fucking hilarious, and crazy, so many people were just screaming out loud at how disgusting it was. I also got to go in the back and have a conversation with him about film school, when I took my Terror Firmer DVD for him to sign, he told me to skip film school and just watch the documentary on the second disc, it was just so much fun talking with him. Then, I did watch it, and it was amazing, and I could see what he was talking about. He also signed my DVD "love, Lloyd". I love Troma films in general, so it is natural that I want to see Tromeo and Juliet.
