He is my favorite director. He has made so many films and all I have seen have been amazing. But there is still SO MANY more to see!

I kinda feel like I don't have the right to say this, but Kurosawa's already one of my favorite directors, even though I've only seen 2 of his films (Seven Samurai and Ran, both absolute masterpieces). I must see more of his films...I'm particularly interested in Ikiru, Rashomon, High and Low, Yojimbo, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress, and The Bad Sleep Well...wow, a lot more than I thought there was. Anybody have any recommendations?

Well you haven't seen Seven Samurai or Ran! Kagemusha is also an amazing film.

All the ones you mentioned are great. (though I haven't seen Bad Sleep Well) I also reccomend Red Beard and Kagemusha.

kagemusha isn't very good. Its clearly a dress rehearsal, almost dry run for RAN. For me, Kagemusha is 6/10 and Ran is 9/10

I disagree completely. Both are perfect 10's.

I could see if you gave Kagemusha a 9 though. I would give it a ten but I do think he was just working on his "new" style which he mastered on Ran.

Tim you do give stuff much higher ratings then films should be given.

Well, I'm not quite as strict about it. If I have absolutely no problem with a film, it's a 10. It doesn't mean it's one of my favorites. It just mean it's a movie I have no problem with. Example: Shaun of the Dead. I like the movie, have no problem with it. 10. I don't hold the rating as sacredly.

Kurosawa is my second or first favorite directors. Having said that I still have more of his films to see. My favorites are Ran and The Seven Samurai. I've also seen Rashomon which is great. Ikiru comes next week.

OK, so now my Kurosawa repertoire is up to 4...I'd rank them (from favorite on down): Seven Samurai (my choice for greatest film ever made), Ran, Yojimbo (great use of the Western in a Samurai setting), and The Hidden Fortress. Really anxious to see Ikiru and Rashomon next.

Since you've seen Yojimbo now, I say check out Sanjuro next, but Ikiru and Rashoman are very good choices.

I've only seen three, but they are all stunning masterpieces. Rashomon, The Seven Samurai and Ran. I will see Ikiru on Friday. I also will eventually see: Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Red Beard, Dersu Uzala, Stray Dog, High and Low and Hidden Fortress. I won't see Throne of Blood because I don't like Macbeth (maybe because I studied it so much in school). edit: I've seen Ikiru now, it's a masterpiece, but i like the other three films better.

Throne of Blood is excellent, I saw this film a couple of days ago and it was intense! I saw Yojimbo today actually. I liked it very much but how's Sanjuro compared to it?

Yesterday i buyed Kagemusha, Red Beard, Rashomon and Sanjuro. I update the list when I`ve seen all three.

Here's how I'd rank all the Kurosawas I've seen so far: 1. Seven Samurai 11/10 (not a typo...my choice as the greatest film ever made) 2. Ran 10/10 (might be the most visually beautiful film I've ever seen) 3. Rashomon 10/10 4. Yojimbo 9/10 5. The Hidden Fortress 8.5/10 6. Sanjuro 8/10 (very enjoyable, but it felt a little like more-of-the-same with Yojimbo) Throne of Blood is next on my must-see list, and down the line I must get my hands on Ikiru.

I could do some sort of list like this:
Seven Samurai 10/10 Dreams 9/10 Yojimbo 9/10 Sanjuro 9/10 Rashomon 8/10 Throne of Blood 8/10 Kagemusha 7/10
Of course, I have a great deal of respect for Kurosawa and have really enjoyed most of his movies that I've watched, but I honestly couldn't get into a few of his movies: namely Rashomon, Throne of Blood and Kagemusha. Sorry, that's just my opinion.
