Okay, I have no idea if they will adhere to this in the movie, but in the comics, there was this alien goo thing called a symbiote that used Peter as a host for a while. After Peter separated from it, it teamed up with Pete's rival photographer (who Parker inadvertanly got fired) and became the villain we know as Venom. There are a few alternate versions of Venom's origin, but that is the most well-known and probably the one they will use. Although I anticipate it greatly, I haven't been keeping up with the news on Spidey 3 too much, hopfully so I can go in relatively spoiler-free... Spidey in Black costume... Venom...

Oh, and I have to say that that last shot in the teaser, when he's looking through the mirrored window is fucking badass!

no, that's not hobgoblin. That's Harry Osborne as the New Green Goblin. Hobgoblin was someone else. Also, my feeling is that Topher Grace is indeed playing Eddie Brock, but he won't become Venom until either the very end of this film or Spider-Man 4. I think Green Goblin and Sandman are gonna dominate this one, and Raimi's saving Venom for the next film.

Posted on IMDB newspage:
"'Spider-Man' Cast Called Back for Reshoots
Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco are being called back to the set of Spider-Man 3 for re-shoots, after test audiences complained the movie was lacking in "action." Franco, who plays Spider-man's alter-ego Peter Parker's troubled friend Harry Osborn in the superhero movies, has just finished filming comedy drama Camille with Sienna Miller. He tells MTV, "The next thing I'm shooting? Re-shoots on Spider-Man... Probably next month. Director Sam Raimi wants more action." The sequel also features Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard and Oscar nominee Thomas Haden Church in new roles."

Maguire Doubts More Spidey Spider-Man actor may call it quits. by IGN Staff
December 1, 2006 - Could it be curtains for Spider-Man on the big screen -- at least in his current form? While Sony Pictures seems to have their minds set on three more films after the current trilogy, franchise star Tobey Maguire may have other ideas.
"This might be a good place to stop -- I am not tied contractually to anymore Spider-Man movies," Maguire is quoted as saying in a World Entertainment News Network report.
The star is still open to the possibility of another movie, but it would have to feel right. "I am not completely closed to the idea of another one if it made sense but I would say the odds were in favor of this being the last one," says Maguire.
Maguire's on-screen flame Kirsten Dunst has hinted that she's not too keen on the possibility of more Spider-Man films either. "I'm not the type of actress who does movie after movie." she's been recently quoted as saying.
Are the two stars genuinely tired of the Spidey franchise, or might they be jockeying for a big pay increase as new contract negotiations begin? Would Sony immediately recast the role if Maguire dropped out, or would they let the franchise lay low for a while? We'll have more Spidey news on IGN as it breaks.

Maguire Says Goodbye to Spider-Man?
Tobey Maguire has confirmed the upcoming Spider-man 3 will be the last time he plays the superhero on the big screen. Co-star Kirsten Dunst has also said she feels the third film will be the last in the popular franchise. Maguire says, "To me it seems like this is a natural point for the team to break up because we have a lot of story conclusions that were going along for the main characters for the first two movies and we kind of tie almost everything up for the third movie. "It feels like a trilogy to me and it feels like the end." But moviemaker Sam Raimi isn't so sure that it's all over for the web-slinging movie hero. In a recent interview, the director stated he's seriously considering a fourth film. He explains, "I love Spider-Man and I love working with Kirsten, Tobey, James Franco)... I just have to make sure that when I'm done with Spider-Man 3, I'm really still fascinated with the character. At this moment I'm fascinated with him." But Raimi insists he couldn't imagine making a fourth installment if Maguire didn't sign on for it. He adds, "I couldn't imagine it."

(from hollywood saloon) From Cinematical:
Sony Basically Renting New York City For Massive Week of 'Spider-Man 3' Promotion
It's official: Spider-Man 3 will be taking over New York City for one full week of movie marketing, before premiering -- as we expected -- at the Tribeca Film Festival. "Spider-Man Week in NYC" will run from April 30 through May 6, and will feature all kinds of different Spidey-related activities. From -- I kid you not -- Spider-Man inspired raps at the Apollo Theater in Harlem (I wonder how many of those raps will include a number of different definitions for the word 'Mary Jane') to Spidey Chats at the Central Park and Bronx Zoos -- The Big Apple will turn, well, webbed later this month.
The actual Spider-Man 3 premiere will most likely take place mid-week and, according to reports, will take place in Queens -- home to Peter Parker. Now, I could be wrong (and correct me if I am), but isn't Peter Parker from Forest Hills? Or did they just shoot scenes in Forest Hills? Either way, I live in Forest Hills -- and so it would be a real fun treat to be able to catch the flick in Spidey's hometown, and not have to spend two hours on a train commuting back home. If you're not able to catch the premiere in Queens, apparently there will be several different screenings taking place throughout the city. Some other stuff taking place that week: You've got a street festival and cast appearance at Rockefeller Center on April 30, original Spidey comic books will be on display at the New York Public Library, and there will be some Green Goblin mask-making at the Children's Museum of Manhattan, as well as lots more. So put in for time off now folks, cause Spidey is coming to town.

from hollywood saloon:
Latest "Spider-Man" 3 & 4 Happenings Source: Dark Horizons
Tobey Maguire is reversing his denial of being "Spider-Man 4" - somewhat anyway.
In an interview this week with Sci-Fi Wire, he talked about the possibility of coming back - "It all depends on if there's a story worth telling. I feel very proud of the three movies that we've made. I feel like the stories all deserve to be told, and, you know, if they come up with a good movie, and the whole team wants to get back together, and we feel like we can make a good movie that's worth making, then I'm up for it."
Meanwhile its been confirmed that "Spider-Man 3" will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in Queens, New York on April 30th. The premiere kicks off a planned "Spider-Man Week in NYC," which will include events and promotions throughout the city.

Here are seven new clips from the movie: Here Ye BeI only watched the Crane Disaster and Subway clips (couldn't help myself, but I'm not watching anything more until I see the actual movie) and DAMN! Fucking amazing is all I can say. Sure the CGI is a little spotty looking in some shots in the crane sequence, but when you consider the level of technicality in that scene, its amazing. I was literally jumping up and down cheering when Spidey was doing all that dodging. I also loved how Spidey was sneaking up on Sandman in the subway, that's something I've been waiting for Spidey to do! And Spidey's new "EVERYTHING!" when Sandman asks, "What does it matter to you anyway?!" completely changes the whole scene for me. It's so much better than the "Everything" we've been hearing in the trailers. Oh my god, I can't wait! The suspense is killing me!

I'm not one for really watching clips for movies but I HAD to at least watch one or two (in this case, two) but they were fugging amazing! This movie is going to be so amazingly awesome that they'll need to create a new adjective to describe it!
