I really haven't watched many 2006 films yet. Odd, because I've seen 55 films from 2005.
1. A Scanner Darkly 2. Clerks II --- Pirates, Running Scared, 16 Blocks.

I just wanted to mention: Hey, everyone that's cynical of new releases, don't be. Sure, there's a lot of crap nowadays, I'll give you that. But there still are good movies being made. The Departed looks like it could be a good remake of Infernal Affairs. Based off the trailer, at least. A Scanner Darkley could visually look a lot like Waking Life, well based on what I've seen at least of A Scanner Darkley, but it promises to be a pretty good movie by a pretty good director. You guys and gals seem to be talking a lot about the Science of Sleep. And Woody Allen is still around, eh? Don't be too dismissive of Hollywood releases. Sure, there will always be movies spoiled by Hollywood (X-Men 3 was too Hollywoody to be great, but it still had some very good scenes), but not all movies produced from the Hollywood are bad. Just give it some time, maybe watch a few obscure movies and then find someone you trust that watches newer releases to give you the heads up on certain movies. That is all.

"Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan"
Beautiful, horrifying, funny. Been watching him for years... good to see him confusing the hell out of packed theaters across the country. The fact that people are suing the filmmakers proves they did something right...
This and the two "Jackass" movies (love em or hate em) have brought some much needed low-fi, cinematic anarchy back into American mainstream films... thank the gods...

Finally someone else on the forum that has seen Borat. Glad you liked it. And I too have been watching Cohen for years. I think they should make an Ali G does America movie, rather than Bruno, who is by far the least funny of the 3 characters.

I'm counting Brick and Tom Yum Goong, even if IMDB says they're from 2005. And technically, I could also include FF7: Advent Children, because it was released US side in 2006, although I have this slight feeling that some people might get really bitchy about where I would place it, so I won't. Although I have this slight feeling that people will get really bitchy anyways, so I dunno. Whatever.
edit: My list was bottom-to-top
Brick - 9/10 The Illusionist - 9/10 An Inconvenient Truth - 9/10 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - 9/10 X-Men 3: the Last Stand - 8/10 Superman Returns - 8/10 Tom Yum Goong or the Protector - 8/10 Jet Li's Fearless or Huo Yuan Jia - 8/10
Snakes on a Plane - 6/10 Elephants Dream - 5/10 Crank - 5/10 Miami Vice - 4/10 The Da Vinci Code - 4/10 The Wicker Man - 4/10 You, Me and Dupree - 2/10
I also need to eventually see: A Prarie Home Companion, Babel, Borat, Casino Royale, Clerks II (more than the first twenty minutes), The Departed, The Fountain, Lady In The Water, Little Miss Sunshine, Lucky Number Slevin (just to see how I (and not you) think of it), Marie Antoinette, The Prestige, Scoop, and Thank You for Smoking. Maybe some others as well.

Ugh, you should finish Wassup Greatness before ranking it. I can't believe you disliked it as much as you did, I mean even worse than the Da Vinci Code? You should just see the first half, which Tim gives an 8/10. You may like the movie more because it is a nice set-up for what happens (the parts you saw).
EDIT:
1. Marie Antoinette 2. Clerks II 3. Wassup Rockers 4. Superman Returns 5. Mission: Impossible III 6. The Da Vinci Code 7. Gridiron Gang

Difficult to remember everything I've seen so far, but here goes; I suppose I can always update it if I forget something.
1. V for Vendetta (10) 2. Superman Returns (10) 3. Clerks II (10) 4. Thank You for Smoking (10) 5. The Illusionist (10) 6. The Fountain (10) 7. Casino Royale (9) 8. Lucky Number Slevin (9) 9. The Prestige (9) 10. World Trade Center (8) 11. X-Men: The Last Stand (7) 12. Talledega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby (7) 13. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (6) 14. The Da Vinci Code (6) 15. She's the Man (6) 16. The Sentinel (6) 17. Snakes on a Plane (5) [Bad, bad movie, but for plain so-bad-it's-good value, it's a ten.] 18. Crank (4) 19. Hostel (1)
Wow. I didn't realize until now how many shitty movies I've seen this year. They already move from good to simply "okay" after number ten, and then rapidly to utter crap.

I'll leave this open untill the oscars, then close it. Ranking films from the previous year just becomes irrelevant at that point.
