Which Springfield Will Get the Simpsons Premiere?[/b] Source: 20th Century Fox June 8, 2007
One very famous fictional city called Springfield, serves as hometown to the world's first family of comedy -- The Simpsons. Now to celebrate this summer's theatrical release of The Simpsons Movie, USA Today is inviting its readers to vote for their favorite real-life "Springfield." Competing communities across the U.S. named Springfield, will compete to win a special "Hometown Premiere" of the film on July 26th.
Each participating Springfield will have approximately 30 days to submit a short film, 3-5 minutes long, showcasing the community's "Simpson Spirit." USA Today is inviting its readers to vote for their favorite "Hometown Movie" online at USAToday.com.
Twentieth Century Fox, which releases The Simpsons Movie worldwide on July 27, will provide each participating community with key Simpson's filmmaking tools, including a digital video camera, The Simpsons Movie couch theatre display, The Simpsons Movie posters, digital files of the film's logo and character art -- and Simpsons -- yellow paint.
Matt Groening, the series' co-creator, has said he chose "Springfield" as the Simpsons' home because it is one of the more common city names in the U.S. Homer Simpson said, "This is great! It will give me a chance to finally find out where Springfield is!"
Entrants should send their films to: The Simpson's Movie Springfield Challenge, Attn: Gwyne Ortiz, Twentieth Century Fox, 10201 W. Pico Blvd., 88/3023, Los Angeles, CA 90035. Twentieth Century Fox must receive all entries by June 28. Shortly thereafter, the films will be posted on USAToday.com -- at which time visitors to the site can vote for their favorite Hometown Movie. The "polls" close July 9 and the winning city will be announced on or about July 10.
Fox will roll out the "yellow carpet" for the winning Springfield at the premiere screening event of The Simpsons Movie, where attendees will get the V.I.P. treatment -- and be among the first in the world to see the long-anticipated movie before it hits theaters.
The fourteen participating Springfields are: Massachusetts, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, New Jersey, Florida, Michigan, Kentucky, Nebraska, Colorado, Louisiana, and Vermont (Township).
It takes a wide screen to fully capture Homer Simpson's stupidity, and The Simpsons Movie does it. In the eagerly-awaited animated feature film based on the hit TV series, Homer must save the world from a catastrophe he himself created.
Starring in the animated film are Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Pamela Hayden, Tress MacNeille, and Albert Brooks.
Producing the feature are "The Simpsons" series executive producer James L. Brooks, creator Matt Groening, current showrunner Al Jean, Mike Scully and Richard Sakai. The script is written by Groening, Brooks, Jean, Scully, Ian Maxtone-Graham, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, Matt Selman, John Swartzwelder, and Jon Vitti -- all series veterans.
David Silverman (Monsters, Inc.), the series' supervising animation director, is helming the feature.

Kennedy Appears in 'Simpsons' Pitch for Springfield, MA[/b] source: imdb
Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, often lampooned on The Simpsons, has made a pitch for Springfield, MA to be selected as the the Simpsons' home town. Appearing in a five-minute video that serves as the city's entry in a contest being conducted by 20th Century Fox to select the Springfield where The Simpsons Movie will have a red-carpet premiere, Kennedy invites the cartoon family to visit Springfield, MA where, he says, they'll "be able to enjoy some real chow-dah." David Horgan, who produced the video, told the Boston Globe: "Kennedy is our ace in the hole. ... The Springfield in Ohio called and said, 'I heard you got Kennedy in your video.' I said, 'Yeah.' They said, 'It's all over.'" However, the Globe pointed out that the competition among the country's Springfields has been intense. It said that Springfield, MO used 15 film crews, 9,000 extras, and 1,440 doughnuts in its video.

Vermont Town Is Selected As Home of 'The Simpsons'[/b] source: imdb
Ending a contest that involved 14 U.S. towns and cities named Springfield, the Vermont town by that name (population 9,300) was officially proclaimed the hometown of TV's (and soon the movies') the Simpsons and was chosen to host the premiere of The Simpsons Movie on July 26. In the promotional video the town put together for the contest, a local talk-show host, playing a real-life Homer, chases a giant, pink doughnut through the streets. In a statement, Gov. Jim Douglas said, "This is an exciting, exhilarating moment for Vermonters. ... Perhaps more importantly, it proves there's really nothing a giant doughnut can't do." The Vermont town did have the edge on the other Springfields -- it has a nuclear power plant down the road, commuting distance for Homer.

this article is super important for any simpsons or futurama fan.
The Future of The Simpsons? [/b] Source: Edward Douglas July 20, 2007
Next Friday, the beloved cartoon family The Simpsons will be coming to the big screen in The Simpsons Movie and ComingSoon.net had a chance to attend a small press conference with the creators, where they told us a bit more of what to expect on the show's next season and the ubiquitous question of a sequel.
"This coming season on the TV show, which is in the works, is just about our most ambitious yet," "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening admitted, before passing the baton to producer Al Jean, the current showrunner, for a brief preview.
"Yeah, the premiere is September 23rd," Jean told us, "Stephen Colbert plays a life coach that Homer gets because he wants to turn his life around and he's great, the next week we have a show that has Placido Domingo and Maya Rudolph as guest stars, where Homer becomes an opera star, and he has these groupies who are these middle-aged matrons that chase him around and Marge is really jealous. We also have Jon Stewart coming up later in a political show where they move Springfield's primary to first in the nation and the candidates come and invade the town and the town is so disgusted, they all write in 'Ralph Wiggum' so we're actually trying to start a 'Ralph for President' boom in 2008."
Jean also told us that there would be a "couch gag" at the beginning of the first episode of the new season that refers back to what happens in the movie. "The key to the show is that each episode sort of goes back to Square One, it's like a cosmic Moebius Strip, so the movie will work its way into the show, but you don't have to have seen the movie to like the show."
Having just finished the movie after working on it for four years, it was probably way too early to say whether or not they'd want to make a sequel to the movie, even though it's likely to make a bucketload of money next weekend.
"We've finished the movie so recently," series creator James L. Brooks concurred. "As you know, we have a joke about it."
Al Jean took the more serious approach to the question: "I would think too that it would be the same role of this movie in that we'd do a sequel if we had a great story, and we wouldn't do it just to do a sequel. You see movies that come out where you're like 'Why did they do another one? I loved the first one so much.'"
Groening got the last word on the sequel question with, "So what we're saying is 18 years from now."
Matt Groening also briefly spoke about his other series "Futurama" which will be returning in a big way later this year. "We're doing four straight-to-DVD 'Futurama' movies and then new episodes on Comedy Central starting in 2008. The first DVD for 'Futurama' will be out for the holidays."
The Simpsons Movie opens everywhere on Friday, July 27. Check back next week for a lot more with the creators.

Has anyone heard the rumour that you see Barts penis in the movie? I saw a brief article on rottentomatoes but am now unable to find the piece. If this is true it'll be the first hollywood movie to ever show frontal nudity without receiving an R rating. The writer of this article ended something like, 'but do we really want to see Bart Simpsons thing?' I would, just to see how they would tackle the animation for this ;D
