This director is one of the most underrated directors I can think of. This man is one of the best American filmmakers of his generation. I love The Treasure of the Sierra Madre it's one of my top 5 films and defently Humphrey Bogart's best character interpetation ever! Speaking of Bogart, in Houston's The African Queen co-starring Katharine Hepburn he won a best leading actor academy award. By all means well deserved! I also happend to love Marilyn Monroe and John Houston made not only her last film, but also her co-star Clark Gable's last, it's entitled The Misfits. I just find this film to be very good and perfect casted. Eli Wallach, Montgomery Clift and Clark Gable fight for Marylin Monroe in outback Texian terrain! Oh' I've seen it once, but man I want to see it again! Anyway, I redommend these three films if you have not seen them I'm sure anybody with feel for golden age cinema and quality should find them to be very worth while. I'm ashamed I have not seen The Maltese Falcon yet...

Oh it will blow you away. The best film-noir I have seen so far. Bogart is brilliant and delivers the dialogue perfect. I am sure you will love it.

The Maltese Falcon was surprisingly poor. It even got boring most of the time. No, give me any other film noir. This was not tasty.

Yes, that is an amazingly good film. Bogart's performance is spectacular.
