So far I've only seen Audition (which currently holds a rightful place in my top 20) and if that's anything to go by he is an exceptionally talented filmmaker. I plan on seeing Visitor Q, Ichi The Killer and The Dead or Alive series soon.

I HATE Miike! He is talentless. When his film is suppose to be funny its not. He is to violent and his films are pointless and overrated. I cannot stand him. I DISPISE Audition, waste of time that isn't good at all. His films are just a jumbled mess and the scripts for his films def. don't help.

I'm inbetween on Audition. To me, it was nothing special, but I don't hate it.

I despise Audition. But I don't hate it as much as Ichi! Ichi's attempts to be funny but just makes me cry at how unfunny it is. It is just a jumbled mess of violence for no reason and pointless scenes! Makes me want to :barf: when I think how bad he sucks, but how people actually give him credit! I mean come on Audition one of the scariest films EVER! Please spar me.

Its not all that scary. Definitely not one of the top 10 best as some have said. But it was a good movie to me. I am going to Blockbuster tonight I think, I might have to pick up Ichi the Killer.

Would you be to get it anyway, Its R or NC-17...
Anyway, I dont mind Miike. I've seen quite a few of his films. I dont think he's hugely talented but he does good things with his budget and comes up with films that are original and unique. He also has a fast workrate. I think his best film is Visitor Q or Audition. Another thing, I think it really shows that he has fun making film and thats nice to see.

Ya, I would be able to get it. The people at Blockbuster know me very well. They would let me get anything I asked for.

Wow, criterionmaster... you're uhh... quite... opinionated. I recommend for you to seek out Miike's The Bird People in China -- it's my favourite of his. It shows quite a different side of Miike.
And the guy has made over 70 films in just one decade; he's like a one man sweatshop. That alone is an accomplishment to me. =p

Quality over quantity

If I ever willingly pick to watch a Miike film I will try the one you mentioned.

Ive only seen Audition and while it wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be, it wasn't a bad film. It was s l o w for sure but it was entertaining throughout. Definetly not a classic by any means though.

Honestly, all I've seen of Miike's work is this: the ending of Ichi the Killer and a clip of this weird rape scene in Ichi the Killer. Um, yeah. I'd lean more toward criterionmaster's opinions, but I'll say: the ultraviolence doesn't interest me much. So I'll just keep my opinion that I don't really care for Miike to myself.

I'd probably have to check it out then.
Although it'd be just like all the heavy metal bands that release a power ballad. Then all the people that liked the power ballad say "hey, all this other stuff is too loud!"

Before giving up on Miike you have got to see dead or alive 2. The first one is a shitty film but this one has nothing to do with the first one and is a totally beautiful and delicate exploration of childhood and friendship. It has a bit of violence, but nothing to over the top. Its also quite funny, unique and well shot. I really love Kenichi Endo to, he's a good actor. I urge you to see it.
Its probably the best work Miike has done, alongside Audition and Bizita Q.

I haven't completely given up on Miike, I just have had little to no interest in checking out his movies lately. Eventually. Don't worry.
