Surf's Up (Ash Brannon, Chris Buck)

IMDb Description: A documentary crew follows overzealous surfing prodigy Cody Maverick (LaBeouf) as he travels from his home in Shiverpool, Antarctica to the Big Z Memorial Surf Off on Pen Gu Island. As he amasses a clutch of supporters along the way, he ultimately must stand on his own against an unexpected competitor: a washed-up but wily old surfer named Geek (Bridges).
My Opinion: I can't believe these kind of films keep getting made, and what, is this like the fifth penguin movie to come out?! This movie looks god-awful.

Ocean's Thirteen (Steven Soderbergh)

IMDB Description: Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and circles up the boys for a third a heist, after casino owner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) double-crosses one of the original eleven, Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould).
My Opinion: These have all been terrible, and 11 should have never been remade in the first place. 12 was one of the worst things ever though, so I would never see this crap. Why does Soderbergh go so low?

Hostel: Part II (Eli Roth)

IMDB Description: While studying art in Rome for the summer, three young American women (German, Matarazzo, Phillips) are lured away to a Slovakian hostel by a model from their class. Soon they will experience the grim reality their weekend getaway has in store.
My Opinion: I will see the first one, even though I hear it is crap. I can't see this before I see that. I hope I do like Hostel, since I really did like Cabin Fever.

LIMITED RELEASES

La Vie En Rose [LIMITED] (Olivier Dahan)

IMDb Description: Marion Cotillard portrays Edith Piaf, the tragic, beloved French contralto who would become an icon with her songs "La vie en rose", "Hymne à l'amour", and "Non, je ne regrette rien".
My Opinion: Anyone know if this is suppose to be good, I have heard it mentioned before.

La Via en Rose looks interesting and I liked both of the first Ocean's movies. Hostel I was bad enough however, I won't be going for a second helping...

From seeing the first 20 minutes, Surf's Up actually comes off as a decent kids movie. I like its style. It is this amusing little mockumentary. I wonder if younger kids would understand its humor though.

I think you really are bashing the Oceans movies way too much, criterionmaster. They are nothing but fun, cool little treats, not to be taken seriously. Soderbergh's direction and Don Cheadle's accent make any of them worth seeing, and 13 is probably the best one, because of both Roberts and Zeta-Jones leaving the cast (they both really irritated me in 12). I also like the music, the smooth pace, and the humor present in all of the films.

I still lilke Hostel (both of them) and probably always will. I'd say give them a try, and if they are not your thing, then so be it. They are my thing, because of the dead-on portrayal of the hatred that other nations have of America and the profound and gritty irony that lies at the core of both movies.

I probably won't give La Vie En Rose a chance unless I hear someone say it is amazing or something. I'm really burnt out on biopics.

"Paris, je t'aime" is playing at a new theater called the 'Sundance' theater. Im going to check it out since this is the last week they'll have it playing. Other than that everything in the theaters right now looks like garbage.

you have to admit, by the trailers and stuff, the film looks terrible. and not to mention, it is such a tired idea now, to have talking animals in a cgi movie, especially penguins as of recent. but maybe you are right, and they did try to do something different and funny. it wouldn't surprise me if there was a good film hiding in the hundreds of films like this.

I may be being a little harsh, just because of my hatred for remakes, and my love of the original, and he just pisses me off remaking solaris and ocean's 11. 11 wasn't the worst thing ever, it was kinda a fun remake, although i couldn't help but compare it to the original, which is 100 times better, but really, ocean's 12 was just bad, in my opinion. it was just a movie that had a big cast of stars, many of which annoyed the hell out of me, and you even pointed two of them out. the original had stars, but did something more. i might give it another try sometime, just to see if i let it being a sequel to a remake of a great film, with at least 5 actors in it that either annoyed the hell out of me, or i just hated to begin with, cloud my judgment. not to mention it following many hollywood filmmaking clichés, with quick flashy cuts or whatever you would call them. i do like soderbergh's traffic a hell of a lot, so i don't give up on the guy.

as for hostel, i have been recommended it by this one girl with terrible taste in film for so long now, that i might just check it out, hah. but i like cabin fever, so i might like this film, too. who knows?
