WIDE RELEASES

captivity (roland joffe)

IMDb Description: A fashion icon (Cuthbert) is taken captive by a serial killer who preys upon her childhood fears via in a series traps and twisted games.
My Opinion: i saw the trailer and this sounds like it has been done before, haha. in fact, in sounds exactly like so many other horror movies. "traps and twisted games" i mean, come on!?

harry potter and the order of the phoenix (david yates)

IMDB Description: With their warning about Lord Voldemort's return scoffed at, Harry and Dumbledore are targeted by the Wizard authorities as authoritarian bureaucrat Dolores Umbridge slowly seizes power at Hogwarts. Disturbing dreams, dire prophecies, raging hormones, and Lord Voldemort's continued influence contribute to the mix.
My Opinion: i am not a harry potter fan, and i would have to see the ones i missed before i saw this, since i have only seen the first two and hated them, but i don't think i will be seeing these in the future.

rescue dawn [limited] (herzog)

IMDb Description: Early on in the Vietnam War, U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler (Bale) is shot down and captured in Laos. Banding together with some of his fellow POWs, Dengler escapes and makes his way through the jungle in hopes of being rescued.
My Opinion: this looks fantastic, all the trailers i have seen make this look amazing, and it is herzog, so i can't wait for it to go wide.

interview [la/ny] (steve buscemi)

IMDb Description: A political journalist (Buscemi) is forced to spend an evening trailing a popular soap-star (Miller), where the near-strangers begin to reveal their true selves to one another.
My Opinion: i really like buscemi, but i don't know much about this, and i don't know if i am willing to see this blindly. has anyone heard anything good about this?

talk to me [limited] (kasi lemmons)

IMDb Description: In 1960s Washington, D.C., Ralph "Petey" Greene (Cheadle) transforms from an ex-con into a popular radio personality and influential community activist.
My Opinion: good cast, but i will wait to find more about this film, as it does sound like a cool idea, but i don't know yet.

my best friend [la/ny] (patrice leconte)

IMDb Description: Catherine (Gayet), refuses to believe that her business partner, the unlikeable François (Auteuil), has a best friend, so she challenges him to set up an introduction. Scrambling to find someone willing to pose as his best pal, François enlists the services of a charming taxi driver (Boon) to play the part.
My Opinion: this sounds like it could be good, the plot sounds interesting.

drama/mex [la/ny] (gerardo naranjo)

IMDb Description: Two individual dramas -- a steamy love triangle and a potential suicide case -- converge over the course of one hot day in Acapulco.
My Opinion: this sounds really good, actually. does anyone know anything about this?!

Harry Potter had a good second half, but the first half took a page out of the Spiderman book, moody and angry to the point where it is laughable (though it oddly works in Spidey). Rescue Dawn is a must see obviously, the trailer looks great.

thanks for the comments. glad you warned me about drama/mex, though it did kinda sound cool. and i cannot wait until next week to see rescue dawn, but simpsons comes out, so i will have a packed weekend, since i am at least seeing that twice.

I was reading about Talk to Me while waiting for the dentist earlier this week and it actually looked pretty decent. Seems like a really angry role for Don Cheadle, but I think he can handle it.

i do love cheadle, and i saw the trailer and it looked good, too. i might check it out someday, depends if i hear more good things about it.
