Best Westerns I've seen: TGTBATU, The Searchers, The Man who Shot Liberty Valance and OUATITW. Oh yeah, and the Wild Bunch.

I just was talking to my dad, we were talking about Treasure of the Sierra Madre and I was wondering if it would count as a western?

Hmm, well its in the old west, so it could kinda be considered a western. I really don't consider it one because its not your standard gunfight in the sun or good guy, bad guy western. I think it really depends on the person and your definition of western.
I think IMDB considers it a western by the way.

What the hell is that second one you listed, I have never heard of it? I wouldn't necessarily call Yojimbo a full-on western, but I am not sure.

This is because it's based on a true story. It's not surprising that National Geographic of all companies distributes this film. The closest comparison I have is The Great Silence, even though I think this is better. It's about a group of volunteers who risk their lives to save the endangered Tibetian antelope from poachers. But make no mistake this is a western with beautiful landscapes and many western situations. There is more moral complexity here than any western I've seen. I rate it 10/10. I consider Yojimbo a western because if A Fistful of Dollars is one, then this is definitely one too.  |

The Great Silence and Magnificent Seven weren't too bad, either. Support Your Local Sheriff! is my favorite comedy/western.
