Who on here has a flixster account? It is this awesome site that is SO simple to make any list you want, just drag and drop titles. I encourage you all to check it out. You review movies on there and can take tests and see how close your tastes are with other people. The ONLY problem is they don't have some of the more obscure films on there, so you will have to send an email and request it, but just REALLY obscure titles like El Topo and Titicut Follies, almost every film that has a DVD release is on there. Here is mine: criterionmaster1.flixster.comPost them if you got 'em!

I bet they don't have Salo on DVD either. I wouldn't bother. As most of you may know, my library system has an impressive amount of DVDs. A good portion of the Criterion Collection, maybe not so many of the older movies, but they have a good range of movies. Over half the movies I've seen since I began my movie watching came from the library. So I have no need to go to Blockbuster or rent from Flixster. (We exclude the local pawn shop, which has a good selection of DVDs for $4 until I buy their good selection out. ) And of course, everyone else's library sucks.

I think you got it wrong, Flixster isn't a DVD rental place, it's a place where you can rate movies and make lists and stuff. Netflix is probably what you are thinking of.

Okay. One of the two needs to change their name.
And, nope. I use the Internet Move Database for all my ratings and stuff. If you highly suggest I convert said list over, I might think about it.

It turns out they will put any films on there. I had them add tons of Bergman and Naruse. As well as a bunch of others. And I have quite a few lists on there. Anyone else got one of these?

I got mine. If you want to see my top 100 looks at it. It isn't in order yet but it kind of is. Tell me if I am missing anything or if something is to high or to low.

Okay, this will prove that MTV and terrible movies are making most people complete retards. I may have over exagerated some facts to get my point acrossed, but not many. This girl on Flixster goes, "hey what music do you like...?"I respond: "Some of my favorites are: The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Rage Against the Machine, CCR, Violent Femmes, The Cure, and many more. Yourself?"She says: " i like guns n roses, bon jovi, my chemical romance black sabbath ramones ac/dc n panic at the disco who are the cures??"I said: "Some good taste, except for the god-awful Panic At the Disco, Bon Jovi, and My Chemical Romance. "The Cures?" I think you mean The Cure, and they are an 80's pop experimental group, they are fantastic. The song "Boys Don't Cry" is a masterpiece."She says: "panic at the disco are class job bonjovi is a complete legend n my chemical romance are amazing!! ?The Cure? "She then came back: "Just listened 2 boys dont cry n its alrite i guess bt no match 4 axl rose!!"I said: "They are two completely different people, there is no comparison between the two. The Cure song "Let's Go To Bed" is fantastic."She said: "yeh but guns n roses are legendary where as who has heared of 'The Cures' no offence!!"I said: "It's “The Cure,” and they are more critically acclaimed than Guns and Roses. The Cure has about 6 CD's in Rolling Stone's top 200 albums, and Guns and Roses have one. They really only have one great album, Appetite for Destruction, one good one, Use Your Illusion I, and a decent one, Use Your Illusion II. The Cure has multiple masterpieces. The Cure is definitely the best band overall, and since when does how popular a band is, make them better? The most popular bands tend to be the worst bands (My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disc, etc.). Plus, Guns and Roses (more like just Axl Rose) is coming out with a new CD, I don’t see the point without Slash involved it will probably suck. I am sorry, but I just don’t like when people don’t know what they are talking about, so I normally have to prove them wrong and it tends to sound like I am making fun of them. I just think it is stupid to compare a good band (Guns and Roses) to a great band (The Cure), when neither has anything in common."*Not edited at all, and seriously this is one of the better back-and-forths I have had with people on there. It makes me sick to my stomach. Look forward to more of this someday. And I do think Guns and Roses is fantastic and look forward to their new CD kinda.

"I may have over exagerated some facts to get my point acrossed, but not many." "*Not edited at all," Kind of a contradiction there. Bad, but really nothing to do with movies.

No, I meant about how many albums were on the list and stuff when I was originally saying it, not that I exagerated any of the stuff after the fact. All that stuff is the same. And yes, it doesn't have anything to do with movies, although she liked terrible movies as well.

The biggest retards in the world have converted from Myspace to Flixster, that site is a sinking boat... I haven't continued to rate things until after 2k, there's just no point. If I get another hit on or fucking Step Up recommendation I'm going to box a cat's ear in...

Haha, exactly. It amazes me I am still able to find people who actually know/talk about film. I haven't rated a film on there in months either (with maybe a couple of exceptions), it's pointless really now. All I use that site for is making fun of people who use it like a MySpace, every time I get a comment/friend request, unless the person likes some good movies, I just say that "you like some terrible films" and occasionally, as I have found out most girls hate, I slip in a "you’re really young too so I can kinda see why you like such bad movies." Man does that piss them off lol. I always point them towards MySpace, but now I have just given up, there are too many of them. The only way I can find people on there that are actually worth talking to is by going to a classic film page, or one I really like (Fanny and Alexander, Dancer in the Dark, Wild Strawberries, etc.) and then I just look to see what else we have in common.

Hmm... so if Flixster is like a movie MySpace, then I can get the shitty MySpace experience without the... shitty MySpace experience. Out of body experience?
Either way, I guess I was vaguely interested in trying it out, I signed up, I won't write any reviews for it, but I'll play around with it a little bit.

Well trust me; MySpace crushes it if you ask me. There are so many flaws with Flixster, you will figure out as you play with it how much it sucks. Sometimes codes on the site work, other ones don't, so many films missing, to add videos you need to do random searches for the videos without a search feature, etc. You should just get a MySpace sometime, they aren't that bad. I actually rarely ever get a friend request from someone I don't want to be friends with. Normally it is from up-incoming young directors promoting their films and stuff, which I am all for. I actually would say MySpace is a good site. In fact, just yesterday a person requested to be my friend that directed a cool looking movie called like “Mondo Movie” or something, about obsessive collectors of things, looks awesome.

Well, the thing that I like about Flixster so far is that there is a focus on movies. But you are right, so many flaws with Flixster; you just barely scratched the surface. I mean, I can understand that they don't have Roundhay Garden Scene, but things just don't always work. Oh yeah, and I might add that Flixster eats up your RAM like nothing else. Firefox usually runs at around 100,000KB or something. I clocked it up to over 300,000KB just by adding movies to my lists. Also, just look at my list of favorite actors. Bruce Lee has acted and directed, Martin Scorsese has a couple cameos, but besides that, I can't think of any of the others taking on acting roles. Still, the novelity value of it hasn't worn off yet. So, does anyone else here have an account there? If so, can I add you to my system and we can be great friends that say hello to each other over and over again and such?
