Mostly because nobody seems to remember it. It is a masterwork. Even people that don't like Lucas will probably like this film.

totally agree about THX 1138. Lucas' first feature, and it really showed that the kid had the natural talent of a great director. It's got an incredibly slow pace and little dialogue, but it's the atmosphere that really makes this film special...it's a shame Lucas' talent went to such waste after this, Graffiti and Star Wars, as he became a slave to his own franchise and made the god-awful prequels his legacy.
