Moviegoers Happy with Product, Says Survey
A recent survey has concluded that 83 percent of moviegoers are satisfied with the quality of current firms. The survey was conducted by PA Consulting and reported in today's (Wednesday) Daily Variety. In an interview with the trade publication, Mike Hunter of PA called the result a surprise and noted, "The satisfaction with the quality of films was consistent everywhere we polled." Nine cities were targeted by the company, which quizzed 2,000 moviegoers. The survey also indicated that the greatest factor keeping moviegoers away from theaters was ticket prices, with 86 percent saying that they'd attend more often if prices were cut in half. ------------------------- How can moviegoers be happy with what they are seeing? Little Man, White Chicks, remakes, etc! Use this thread to vent about the downfall and say why you still go to the theater. And also what you think about this article.

I think they should have day passes at theaters. Or charge much less.
As for what's showing in my area:
Babel Borat Casino Royale Fast Food Nation Marie Antoinette Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles (A not-Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon famous foreign language movie being shown in a movie theater in the United States? It is by the director of Hero, but still. Wow.) Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny The Departed The Fountain The Prestige
No sign of Little Man or White Chicks in any of those theaters. I weeded out some of the lesser choices, but as you can clearly see, yes, we are in a HUGE shortage of good movies (haven't seen any of the above yet). Dismal times... </sarcasm>
edit: Also, the title is contractory to the article. Moviegoers are not completely content with the product, because three percent more know the damn product is too expensive.

I think everyone exaggerates on the state of films. Even in the golden age (in my book, 60's 70's) TONS of crap came out. This year I've seen around fifteen or sixteen movies, and only a couple were a waste of time. I get frustrated sometimes, but it's not THAT bad.

Babel - decent Borat- best comedy of the century Casino Royale- awesome Fast Food Nation- haven't seen it, but have heard good things about it Marie Antoinette- haven't seen it, but have heard GREAT things about it Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles- never even heard of it Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny- stupid humor, but worth a good laugh... not a BAD movie The Departed- terrific, best movie of the century The Fountain- mindblowingly amazing, a must-see The Prestige- pretty darn good and worth your money
There aren't any bad movies in the ones you pointed out. I think this year has been a great year for the number of mainstream good movies in comparison to the number of bad movies. I mean sure, movies like White Chicks come out every once and a while, but the halfway intelligent people refuse to see them. I think this year has brought some truly GREAT movies, and if next year can be half as good as this year, I really can't wait.

It's not that there aren't any good films, it's that the bad films are worse than normal. Never have there been so many CG animated talking animal crapfests and remakes before. There are good films each year, but it sickens me that people still go to see all these crap films, and they keep getting made. I have stayed away from the theater almost completely this year, but I just can't stand seeing an obviously bad movie trailer on TV, or hear people talking about the latest Saw rip-off like it is a masterpiece. 83% like the cinema, that is outrageous! Who did they ask, the people coming out of Saw 3??

Well, they probably are not surveying only the movie critics, if that's what you're implying. The average American probably doesn't have vast expertise in what makes a movie good or bad, and probably views the cinema medium as a form of entertainment, so I'm sure they are SATISFIED with films coming out today.

Yeah, it takes a while for your movie-watching tastes to develop.
Just take me for instance.
Before I got into movies toward the beginning or middle of the year, when I saw a movie, I just thought good or not good. Some regard for the quality of it, but you know, I didn't really care that much. Now, I've seen plenty of movies, I know what a truly good movie should be. I also have seen some crappy movies just to know how bad they can be.
It's strange, though, when I rewatch a movie I dug the first time around and then realizing little things about how not-so-great it actually was.
As for the movie-a-week pace most of those CGI movies come out, yeah, it's pretty weird. I mean, to make a CGI movie is not a walk in the park, it takes quite a long time. So how they're able to pump them out so consistently is kind of strange, even though I bet it's the case with most directors or artists in general: you give them too little time to work on their art, and they fuck up. Simple as that. (Although I also suppose these were not meant to be artistic works of art, even though there are some exceptions. The ones we might actually see, I mean.)
