Is it really possible for Eastwood and Di Caprio to be nominated twice in the same category??

Yeah, it happened at the Academy Awards with Hitchcock in 1940 for Best Picture, Foreign Correspondent and Rebecca, so I am pretty sure it can happen here.

I'm so happy that Little Miss Sunshine got nominated for Best Picture in a Comedy/Musical. But then I saw Borat did too. I'm completely torn!
Too bad both will probably get trounced by friggin gay Dreamgirls, a movie I already hate without even seeing it.

Borat wins best actor. Excellent!!! i heard, but i'm not watching. is cohen there normally or in character as borat, which is his shtick of late? the one i'm really happy about is scorsese. hopefully this is a precursor to his finally winning old Oscar.

I didn't watch it, just saw it on IMDB. But Forest Whitaker just won best actor and he could barely speak at first, I thought he was drunk, but then he picked it up.

Babel wins best picture drama. Kind of a surprise, I had the Departed pegged as the winner.

I think it would be an insult to give Scorsese an Oscar now after ripping him off so many years. He should just go down in history like Kubrick, Kurosawa, and Hitchcock. He is definitely just as good as them.

Here's a list for the people like me that don't normally watch television. Oh wait, that would probably be just for me, but hell, for reference's sake. Too much love for Dreamgirls. Even though the title sounds horrible, it doesn't seem that bad, but still. At least the Da Vinci Code got shit. It's good that Forest Whitaker won. Will Smith probably shit himself because he lost against some guy no one's ever heard of. As for Martin Scorsese, you're thinking of the Academy Awards.

i know i'm thinking of the academy awards. i'm saying that his winning the golden globe might be an indicator that he's an early favorite for the oscar.

The Fountain didn't win best Score?!! I'm furious! Anyway, the Golden Globes (and the Oscars, really) are stupid, c'mon.

Clint deserves it, he made two excellent films in one year. He deserved to win for something, especially since he made a film in Japanese when he doesn't even speak the language.

Okay, well you have seen neither of the films so you are just guessing that it is good because A. it is one of your favorite directors, B. critics have said it was good, you still could hate both of the films. And plus, it is stupid, give the award to something that was an ACTUALLY a foreign film, like Volver. If Clint wins best director, or gets best picture at the Oscars I will be so pissed. It seems like he makes his films just to win awards, maybe not his early stuff, but at least it seemed the main reason behind Million Dollar Baby was to win. It was about a woman boxer, it is a true story, and she dies at the end. OSCAR!

Clint doesn't Oscar hunt, why would he? By Million Dollar Baby, he already had two under his belt. And since when have movies about women boxer's been automatic Oscar picks?

A true story about a woman boxer who trys to defeat the odds and then dies, that sounds like an automatic Oscar pick to me. Those over sentimental conventional films are what the Oscars love.

You are just pissed off because the Aviator lost out. The Aviator was over long and was a true story about a guy who goes crazy trying to make it. Is that not Oscar bait as well or did you just dismiss that because you love Marty?

Is that not Oscar bait as well or did you just dismiss that because you love Marty? Well the true story of a man slowly going insane is much different then a safe woman boxer movie. The difference between the two films is that I thought Martin actually did something with the story he had to tell differently, I love the story of Hughes and he did a fantastic job with it. And the performances were all fantastic and believable. Then there is Million Dollar Baby who did all stuff that has already been done, they took the safe way on everything. Even the whole "tear-jerker" ending is clichéd. It just seems like he didn't do anything deserving of the award. Everything in the film had already been done. Okay, well you have seen neither of the films so you are just guessing that it is good because A. it is one of your favorite directors, B. critics have said it was good, you still could hate both of the films. That is what irritates me; they do best foreign language film, so any movie in a different language counts, instead of giving awards to actual foreign produced films which is what I wish they did.

Ah whatever. A biography of a man with problems is much safer than a movie about a woman boxer and assisted suicide. But, you wouldn't agree.

Well foreign films are often times stuck to only one category, "Best Foreign Film," whereas American films can now be both, only if it is in a different language? But yeah, if the best film wins then I am happy, although I doubt that was the case this time. God, I hate how I say I don't care about these stupid awards things, but then when they roll around I am discussing them so much. lol
To beed: either way, the better film lost in my opinion, and in yours it won. Although I still don't see how you can like that film so much after having seen all these movies.

That is why I said "I doubt." I am just basing it on my new love of Almodovar and how much I am dying to see Volver, although Letters from Iwo Jima looks better than Flags of Our Faggots.

You are being disrespectful to a film you have not seen. The only reason you think Iwo Jima would be better is because its in a foreign language.

Well really neither movie interests me, it takes a lot to get me interested in new movies for some reason. The only reason I think it looks better is because the Flags of Our Father trailer looked pretty "eh," and didn't interest me at all. And I have heard much better stuff about Iwo Jima, neither of them I will see anytime soon though. Plus I am disrespectful to almost all new films before seeing them.

Not all new films out of America are bad, and they are not worthy of disrespect. Especially ones made by past film masters like Eastwood.
