Discuss all the films that you grew up on or are for some reason or another nostalgic.

Oh I have many, most of them are taped from TV on VHS. I absolutely love this basketball flick Celtic Pride (1996) with Dan Akroyd and Damon Wayans. I started playing b-ball when I was around nine or ten years old. I've seen this film so many times and i laugh at the same jokes. It's really a silly comedy and predictable but so nostalgic for me. The strangest thing for me with nostalgic films is that I first and formost reckognize the soundtrack and dialogue tones as if I've heard the film as a soundtrack... hard to explain.

Star Wars. It was my life from about 4th grade straight-on through high school. of course as my movie repertoire has expanded, it's lost some of its steam, but it'll always hold that place in my imagination.

Probably Star Wars and ET, the first two films I saw in theaters.

One of the most nostalgic films for me is definitely Home Alone and Home Alone 2. They are so much fun and I probably never watched any movies more in my life. I grew up on these films, had toys and everything. I can't wait to buy them, they will be great for my collection. Even if they aren't the best movies they are still 10/10's in my book.

Oh God, Dan! I didn't even like that movie when I was a kid. Here's the movies I am nostalgic for:
Star Wars (obvious) Indiana Jones (ditto) Back to the Future E.T. Rocky Toy Story (First movie I saw in the theater!) The Lion King Batman Forrest Gump
More to come...

Definately the Turtles film. (I never liked the last two, though.)

... Even if they aren't the best movies they are still 10/10's in my book. What? You know, when I give 10/10s, it's a film I want you all to watch as fast as you can, with all my heart. It's cinema that moves me nearly into tears, that just amazes me with it's genious and poetic expression. When you guy's give 10/10 so certain films, I know that they don't mean to you as much as films that I give 10/10, means to me. I don't try to tell you that it's wrong or anything, but I find it hilarious to give a film like Home Alone, nostalgia or not, 10/10. It's meaningless, because I know, I know, you don't think it's near being a piece of cinema that stands truly on it's own and works perfect on every levels. This is hard to explain, but when I see that a film like Home Alone is being given a 10, it's impossible for me to take every other 10/10-movie into my consideration of getting it very soon or something. Sometimes, when some of you guys give a 10, I think "oh, he liked it, had a good time". I don't know wheter this is true or not, but it's how I feel. Nostalgic films for me: Escape from L.A. is a film I remember seeing with my father, and I absolutely loved it. I hadn't seen Escape from New York, I think, but Carpenter's "remake"/sequel worked as a great, suspenseful action-veichle for my young brain. I just loved the setting and all (I'm a sucker for these kinds of settings even today!). Another film that brings nostalgia with it, is In the Line of Fire, which I talked about in the "last film you watched"-tread some weeks ago. It was a film that made a huge impact on me, and I never forgot Malchovitch with that home-made gun, shooting those poor guys in ice cold blood. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior is also worth mentioning in this thread; I remember that I loved the film, and also here the setting had a great deal of influence on the film itself and my own creativity in different kinds of fields. I'll try to think about more films. I know it's quite a bunch.

Hmm...
Jurassic Park! Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie (This movie is so fun to watch. I'm aware that it isn't that great, but I give it a ten for the same reason Dan gives Anal Probe and Anal Probe 2: Lost in New York tens.) Princess Mononoke (I saw this back in 99 on a VHS tape that my brother borrowed from his friend, Joe. I just felt so cool watching it. We had no expectations, so it really stunned me. One of my favorites to this day.) Ferris Bueller's Day Off (I think there was a time when I watched this at least once a week) The Dark Crystal (I remember trying to watch this around when I was seven or eight, and a bunch of older kids turned it off, because it was "boring." It took me till a couple of years ago to see the whole film, because I couldn't find it anywhere.)
Again, more to come.

Yeah, Jurrasic Park! That one bring nostalgia with it. I also remember my father talking alot about Star wars, and we were in this store when I saw the Star wars trilogy. My father told me I should buy the third chapter, letting me know that this film had most action and exitement in it. I watch it when I came home and I was just amazed by it. After some time, I got hold to Empire Strikes Back, and I thought it was good, very much filled with atmosphere, but didn't find it quite as enjoyable as the Return of the Jedi. After some days, weeks, I don't remember, I found the first film in the trilogy, and I thought it was uttterly great, as with the previous. So, I watched the trilogy in the "wrong" order, but hell; I came out as a satisfying customer and early movie buff.

Sometimes, when some of you guys give a 10, I think "oh, he liked it, had a good time". I don't know wheter this is true or not, but it's how I feel. Well for this film I have to give it 10, obviously, like I said, it isn't a good movie, but just like someone would give their favorite cult movie a ten, even if it wasn't perfect. Home Alone is just the perfect childhood memory for me, a movie totally deserving of a ten in that respect. Yeah, when I say I am giving a ten to a film like The Gore Gore Girls that is obviously just a joke, but when I say I am giving a 10 to Pink Flamingos that is because it is a movie I feel I could just watch so much, and joke about it, making it a cult film. Yeah, I give too many tens, but read my thoughts of the films and you should know whether I truly mean the grade, or whether it’s just because it sucked so bad, or it was so entertaining, or so on. I will tell you films that must be seen when I write thoughts (Dancer in the Dark, Twenty-Four Eyes, Punishment Park, etc.). Home Alone is just, I have no word for what is it to me. It just has to get a 10 from me, not on quality, but on what it did for me when I was a kid. More to come from me as well, including the eventual ten I will give to Homeward Bound. I like the discussion of what makes a film a ten and so on.

Thanks for the reply. I mostly understand when you truly mean that the film is a masterpiece and/or something extraordinary. The reason is that you usually write much about your experience, which I love. There are some here that only post a grade and a few sentences, and that is fine, but when I read, for example, "10/10 - A great film, so funny!", I dosn't let the 10 work as more than "oh, he thought it was a good/great film, maybe I'll see it sometime". Others, like Agenknight, just to take an example, give away 10s that I can understand and I often think that "that's a film I should get hold to soon or right away".

I have to agree with the Bambi votes. I saw it during a theatrical run during the 80's. That was the first movie that I can still remember going to a theater to watch. I went to the theater before, but for some reason the day that I went to see Bambi 18 years ago has stuck strong with me ever since. Others would include:
The Land Before Time An American Tale Milo and Otis A Christmas Story Sandlot

I completely agree with the first two choices, those are some of the classic non-Disney films that I can remember. I watched them both so much when I was little, had both of them on VHS.

Screw Land Before Time! We're Back!: A Dinosaur Story CRUSHES it! I actually didn't care for that film, and remember nothing from it, whereas Land Before Time is amazing and I remember the whole film still, after not having seen it for years.

As a guy that's relatively against the idea of getting excited over something based on nostalgia alone, I don't have too many flicks that I'd watch only because I liked them as a kid. Some good movies that have nostalgia attached, though:
The Lion King (First movie I saw in the theater) Aladdin Ducktales: The Movie- Treasure of the Lost Lamp Toy Story Jurassic Park Back to the Future Star Wars Indiana Jones
Also all tens.

After hearing some song on the radio I was reminded of how much I used to watch this film: Probably terrible, but I have fond memories.
