VHS collections

I can't be the only one who still buys videotapes. They are easy to come by for 50p or a pound now (that'd be 25 - 50 cents to you Yanks) and I feel they remain a good way to try out movies I haven't seen, without outlaying much so if I dislike the film it at least hasn't cost me much.

I agree they are a good way to try out films, but when I am done with them, I usually just sell them to this place by my house, or at yard sales, or whatever. I have two at the moment:

And I got them both for $0.50 because they had really good reviews on them. I haven't watched them, but when I do, if they were good enough to keep, I would just buy the DVD editions, that is, if they have DVD releases. If they didn't then that would be different, I would probably keep them then. I still rent VHS's too, but I am the only one in my house with a VHS player that even slightly works.

(I might also have the original Titanic on VHS, which I still need to watch as well.)

I have a good Gojira collection going. One is a box set that has the Stomp of Approval, although admittedly, this was back when VHS tapes werent' cheap as hell. Oh well.

Say whaa? They were still making VHS's that late, I mean Dawn of the Dead came out like within a few years, I had no idea some VHS's were still being made, although I did have a couple that have DVD features on them, haha.

One time I was at Hollywood Video and came across a Texas Chainsaw Massacre VHS that had deleted scenes on it, a few weeks later I ordered the DVD online, and NO DELETED SCENES! I couldn't believe a VHS had more features than the DVD. I never did get to see the scenes, so let’s hope they are on the new edition.

I haven't verified this myself, but I still remember VHS being advertised less than five years ago. It was always like you'd see commercials where they'd say "get it now, for video or DVD."

note: I wasn't able to find an exact date. Wikipedia likes to think that VHS tapes just stopped being made recently - and that Borat is available on VHS, dunno if you're interested in that dontdigonswine or not - but this probably ignored news snipplet said that Maxell stopped producing VHS tapes back in 2001.

That reminds me... I didn't check out those DVD features on my VHS tape of the Dawn of the Dead remake. Oh well! ;D
