these aren't films you necessarily even want to see, these are films you actually need to see. ones that are almost required viewing if you are a film fan, or one's that you have heard so much about, you feel forced into seeing them.
i really want to see more 70's american cinema, myself, like french connection, network, some ashby joints, conversation, and many more.
how about you? you can also help me come up with some that are required viewing for me and 70's american cinema, that i may not have seen.

French Connection is smooth, witty and tough. One of Gene Hackman's most charismatic performances, and the car chases are wild too. Network is among my favorite films of the 70s, it's a kicking satire on the power of the media and doesn't stop at anything. The Conversation works so well as a mysterious film, and drives you all the way forward to the ending. There are some jawdropping sequences in the film, man and I'd say it's pretty much an underrated film. From the 70s I really want to see Altman's debut Brewster McCloud, Zabriskie Point from Antonioni, Dennis Hopper's The Last Movie, John Cassavetes' Husbands and Cría Cuervos with Ana Torrent.

Cría Cuervos is a very disturbing film. It is sort of like what you get if Bergman and Buñuel co-directed The Spirit of the Beehive. It has a catchy song that you'll either like or think is repetitive, like California Dreaming in Chungking Express. I want to see Last Year at Marienbad, The Exterminating Angel, and some Tsai Ming Liang and Hou Hsiao-hsien.

I need to see some Cassavetes, some more Truffaut, some more Renoir, the Samurai Trilogy, some more Melville... I could go on forever.

I think it was Agentknight's favorite movie, if I'm not mistaken. Looks pretty interesting to me, though I am not a big fan of Gallo.

You all know that it'd be a shorter list just asking about the films I have seen! I haven't seen close to even a tenth of what any of you have.

I really want to see more Rivette, the few I saw at a retro last season were simply amazing, he seriously needs more R1 rep. Also, gotta get more fassbinder down, 13moons is my favorite piece of German cinema, easily can compete with Tin Drum in my book.

'cause if it is, then i am definitely checking it out. i love easy rider, and read so much about hopper. too many, but for now I'll leave it at La Dolce Vita. that might end up being one of your all-time favorites, so enjoy. i NEEEEEEED to see If... and Night on Earth. luckily, Criterion's taking care of that soon enough. do you know if if... is a highschool movie or something? i can't remember, but i think on the dazed commentary, linklater mentioned it, calling it "one of the best teenager movies" or "highschool movies" or "teen comedies" i can't remember which, but right after that he mentioned breakfast club or something, so i am definitely wondering now. it is insane how many criterions that just came out, or are coming out, that i need to see! they are going killing me.

too many, but for now I'll leave it at La Dolce Vita. I would recommend seeing Nights of Cabiria first, seeing that it's easily Fellini's best film before he got into surrealism.

Oh, I need to see a lot of classics, but that doesn't really translate out to me wanting to see a whole lot of classics. But that's just me.

I dig Easy Rider too, and I'm curious to watch more from Hopper so I got to check it out! I've read various reviews on The Last Movie, and as I understand it's a love/hate kinda film. Man, I wished more John Cassavetes films were released!

Oh, I need to see a lot of classics, but that doesn't really translate out to me wanting to see a whole lot of classics. But that's just me. the exact same thing happens with me and silent films, there are so many i need to see, but that i don't really want to see. like a bunch of films from d.w. griffith. thanks, man, now you got me even more anticipating those films! and yes, add all the cassavetes i haven't seen to my list, even big trouble, which i don't want to see at all, but have to see just 'cause it is cassavetes. i heard that last movie wasn't good, or at least did terribly back in the day. is it suppose to be good? Man, I wished more John Cassavetes films were released! last movie will probably at least be worth checking out just to see it, so i will. hopefully i end up being one of the people who love the film. i hate that so much shit comes out every week, yet it is never some of the films that NEED to come out, like those of cassavetes.
