What are the best debut films from a director you can think of?

I know one of the best, if not the best, would be 400 Blows.

Amores Perros and Reservoir Dogs are both excellent debuts.

And yes, Reservoir Dogs is great.

Brick - Rian Johnson....

Oh, I have to watch Brick soon. I've heard many good things about it.

Its an incredible film, I need to rewatch it, only saw it at the arthouse cinema, which in itself was quite lucky i suppose. Really hilarious, excellent script and cool cinematography.

Brick is truly an amazing experience. I can't see any reasons why it isn't one of the best movies of the year.

Another great debut by a screenwriter is Little Miss Sunshine by Michael Amdt. And yes, I think I'm obsessed with this movie, but still, it is a fantastic script.

Tarantino says it's one of his favorite Asian films ever.

I will have to check that film out, I tend to really like Tarantino's taste surprisingly. He likes great films, of all kinds, but also loves so-bad-they're-good films, just like me. Is there a DVD? What do you rate the film yourself?

It's been a while since I've seen it, so I can't give a definite score, but I remember I was blown away when I first saw it. I don't think there are any DVDs with English subtitles. I got it through emule, but there are torrents for it too.
