Do you only focus on buying specific types of movies and never even consider purchasing anything else, or do you like to have a variety?
I focus mostly on international and cult movies, though I occasionally buy something different. Like recently, I felt the need to purchase Marie Antoinette for no other reason than that I heard that it was visually attractive. Most of the movies (and TV shows) I buy are geared toward my very particular tastes, regardless.

I usually buy at random. I usually buy horror movie but I can get sci-fi, comedy, silent, family, and all kinds of films. If it sounds good, I will probably get it.

I buy what I like, but my likes are very diverse. So I would say exactly both.

Totally diverse, duude. I do like zombie movies (so that may be a slight focus there), but with samurai movies, I love the genre but have yet to buy a samurai movie that is not the Seven Samurai or Le Samourai, because they're just so damn expensive and if I need a samurai movie, I just go to the library. Half of my collection came from... the pawn shop.... duh-duh-duuun, so whatever I can find cheaply there that I've heard of, I get. (I get Criterions if they're very cheap, but I don't have a need to collect them with my library system owning more than half of the collection.) The other half consists of movies I've either seen from the library, bought from somewhere else besides the pawn shop I frequent, or were bought because of a recommendation or something.

"Mostly diverse, with a slight focus." I normally buy films I like, or ones that are suppose to be good, but it accidentally just ends up being mostly different kinds of films, but I do focus on getting a lot of art films, but also a lot of "so-bad-they're-good" films.
I will tell you what I never by, a film I hate. Pretty obvious, but the kinds of films I hate tend to be certain things specifically, like new, MTV-style, horror films, new, poorly-written comedies like that of Adam Sandler, (most) new Hollywood-clichéd films, but that could be arguable in some cases.
I do try and get all the special editions, which I think would fit the thread question "what is my collecting style?" I mean, I want stuff that enhances a film I love, so I always try and get the best editions, which is where Criterion comes in handy.
Cult films, like lordofdance, would also describe the kind of films I buy, since terribly-good films often have a cult following. This is a hard question though; I like to think I have a diverse-style, but maybe not as much as I thought. You tell me.
