Funny thing, seeing The Departed THAT high up on your list. I thought it was good, but was a bit dissapointed, really. I can see why someone find it brilliant, though. I really do. Great to see that you appreciate Scorsese in general, also.

Yeah, I liked Garden State. I really liked the soundtrack, and even though it did seem kinda cutesy at times, I could relate to the main character. I'm not really for sure why I liked it. It's probably the guiltiest pleasure on my list.

Actually, technical value means nothing to me. I mean, it's great if it's there, and I do like movies that are better made, but I mean, if a movie is technically very good but it has no impact on me or leaves me feeling like "okay, so this kid did a good job but it means nothing besides that." then that movie means very little to me.

Wonderful and varied list, man. I've seen 97 films here and especially the top 20 of yours is great. Love your Hitchcock, Antonioni and Altman picks. Cool to see that you've got both 2001 and Solyaris in the top 20, awesome!

Very nice dude, totally love the list. It is a cool idea to make a list based on how much they make me want to become a filmmaker. Though that would be hard for me since a film like Slacker, which I don't love that much, is one film that really makes me want to make movies. How did you decide what would go on the list, since doesn’t a film like say Clerks or something make you want to make movies as well? Was it more the films you loved the most, or was it really the ones that made you want to go out and make movies the most?

Nice mention of Brick, too. I am so into that movie right now, I just watched it. I recommend you check out Fallen Angels if you loved Chungking, both are perfect films. You really like Citizen Kane that much? I find it pretty overrated, but technically it is a masterpiece.

This list is more about if I could ever make a perfect movie (even though such a thing doesn't exist), I would have to include things from each one of those movies. I might as well go ahead and explain what elements astonish and inspire me the most in each film:

Pulp Fiction- An unbelievable experience all around. Hypnotically rhythmic and funny dialogue, characters with depth and dreams and desires, great soundtrack to blend it all together. The most completely enthralling and enjoyable film I've ever seen.
L’Eclisse- Breathtaking cinematography that envokes the exact same mood and feeling that the characters are experiencing. Realistic characters who live and breathe right in front of you. Humane and understanding, yet utterly hopeless. Complex yet simple. Subtle yet obvious. Beautiful all around
8 ½- The one film that is the best example of catharsis without self-indulgence. Stunning surrealistic fantasy sequences. Creative cinematography. Nice music, too.

Thank you, finally someone else who feels the same way about Pulp Fiction as I do. It is one of the most perfect and enjoyable films I can think of watching. Don't you just wish it went on forever?
