I know, double posting, and I already have a list, but guess what? First of its kind list. You click the links, and find out more about the movie/director. And it is good. Oddly enough, even though this requires no language or even thought, it's confused like half the people I've showed it to. What the hell? If you recognize the image, cool, if not, you click on the link and it tells you more! Also, it goes like a Z. One, two // three, four. Oh, nice, all the images are together, as they should be. On the forum I created this for, there was space, and that was bad.

This is awesome, nice work. It must have taken you quite some time. Thanks Captain. I don't often hear a kind word from you, so it's glad to hear, here. I'll savor the moment... It did take a while, but you know, it's just what you gotta do. You gotta get it done. People at YMDB2 and another forum I've been visiting have their Top lists all fancy, with images and quotes and shit; I think the same's been happening around here, but things aren't as standardized. Sure, these things look nice, but a lot of that information detracts away from the movie itself. For example, if I have Cinderella Man on my list, which I don't, you might just be like "oh, that movie never really interested me (because of the title...)" and just go on. But if you see an awesome shot - cmaster said the shot below, in particular, was a winner - then you'll be like "huh" and want to click on it. Instead of seeing a bigger version of the screenshot, you'll find a website with information about the movie. All that information, title and quotes and shit, might be found on that website. Sure, that means at most you'll have to click on one hundred images, but this is a more of an interactive thing. Of course, you could just pass over everything, but if you spend a little bit of time looking at it, you'll get a lot more out of it than just "oh, huh, you have Kekexili on your list, sounds cool," and never check it out. HOWEVER, I still find it hilarious that people are incapable of understanding this. Jeez. Why, just a couple years ago, people actually knew things on the Internet. God damn. Since Myspace, ALL THE GODDAMN STUPID PEOPLE HANG OUT ONLINE. GODDAMN. What the hell? I mean, are these people incapable of understanding the very basics of the Internet? Do I have to teach them how to dress themselves? Is there a lack of connection between an image and "HUH, what happens if I hover over it? What happens if I click on it?" I mean, sure, I've been around the block, but this is like someone who is able to drive, but doesn't know what a brake is. Is this the thought process? They see: They think: HUH. I have not heard of the movie "Get More. Worry Less." I am not interested in seeing this movie, but I have enough time to write an angry post about how THIS LIST RUINED MY LIFE. Real world example: " I can barely see most of these images. Honestly, I was able to recognize a few of these, but the rest are really poor image quality, not to mention completely random images. I see you have a picture of a dimly lit room and a picture of some stairs. What the hell? Make some sense, or at least display the movie title." Oh well. I mean, I don't know what the people around here think of my list besides you, but it really goes to show that if someone is unable to think about something like this for more than a couple of seconds before ranting about how they don't like it... you really shouldn't be hanging out with them.

^ I don't think it is really that difficult to determine what films the shots are from. I was able to discern what most of them were (other than some of the anime). And that is why I find the list to be so impressive.

^ I don't think it is really that difficult to determine what films the shots are from. I was able to discern what most of them were (other than some of the anime). And that is why I find the list to be so impressive. Exactly. I like to think of it like this: half of my list consists of popular choices. If you can't recognize the screenshot from the Big Lebowski, you haven't seen it, and if you don't recognize the one from Star Wars... you are beyond help. Also with the screenshots, my goal was to have all unique shots (in other words, NOT THAT SHOT FROM AGUIRRE, which fell out of my list a while ago). I kind of decided halfway through to just get the screenshots up and worry about quality later. But with the shots, I also made them so the screenshot's instantly recognizable. For the most part. Still under construction... ;D This is beautiful to look at and fascinating! You have intriguing tastes and the links are valuable. Thanks man for all the positive words. ;D ;D Looking over your old Top 20, it does share a lot in common: American Beauty, Master of the Flying Guillotine-Bride With White Hair, Cries and Whispers-Seventh Seal ...and I had these up on my list at one point: Aguirre, The Maltese Falcon, Ikiru and Brick. So I can see why my list went over so well for you. Also, one of the purposes of this list is a recommendation guide. While I don't recommend diving into every single one of these movies, some are scary shit , they are movies I might recommend to someone looking for recommendations. Although, lately I've been dealing with anime recommendations a lot and I've been recommending shows that I didn't care for 100% that I figure other people would like. (And actually, those have had lower success rates than the ones where I did really like the anime. Figure that. ) Don't worry if you didn't fully understand this whole thing when you first saw it. I just find it amusing that there are people out there who get really pissed off because they don't understand the list at all, and are completely oblivious to the fact that images can link, just like text! (Even when I stated that the images were clickable, people did not read! ) Hey, where is everyone?

i still really love the list, dude. i don't have a clue what people were talking about. images from the actual film, make me want to see a movie more than the title!!! when i see a really amazing image from a film, it sometimes makes me want to see it so bad i could kill someone, like that one image from badlands that nonfiction had in his signature, then i did. just something about that made me want to see it. which is why i like your list a lot, some films i would probably just pass over or some shit, i actually get more interested in, because i see a shot from it. plus, i recognize most of these films anyways. these other people you are talking about, must just be against doing something new, or clicking on something, or they just don't know their films very well, if they can't recognize tons of these. oh yeah, and i had no clue you liked re-animator that much, that is awesome! it is also sweet to see punishment park on your list, but what is wrong with the quality of the picture? did you use the one from this site?: www.eurekavideo.co.uk/moc/catalogue/punishment-park/

Thanks. I know what you mean. If you read the title Badlands, it doesn't really seem too impressive, but if you see some shots by it, you're more likely to check it out. Titles can still perk your interest, like Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! but if you see the screenshot I included on my list, well, your interest will be erected. Yeah, I think they're just dumbasses that are incapable of clicking on things. Instead of insulting them, I should teach them how to use a mouse. Yup, I saw Re-Animator about a month ago; well, most of it. The DVD crapped out on me, but it was a great movie. I got grabbed the screenshot using VLC player and reduced the size of it to fit in the frame a little bit more. How's this one? I think it's decent, in that it shows the desert atmosphere, but it doesn't really show what it's about. It's just a guy runnin', and you do see some people in the distance so you could imagine that he's being chased, but you know, someone would be like "all I see is a tree!" If anyone's interested in helping me out, I need some better screenshots for these: Ones I'd like to fix sooner: Airplane (I'd like one with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, if possible) The Maxx (this one's blurry) Ones I'd like to fix eventually: Fight Club, the Matrix, The Seventh Seal (too typical), Fargo, and maybe a different one from Blade Runner. Also thinking of including a picture of a movie camera for my Top 8 directors, kind of like I did with my picture for my Top 100, where someone might put text in it but I didn't. (I'm fixing to have it fit in a 600x150 frame.) Just figured I'd post this in case anyone was willing to help out. Don't worry if you can't.

Update with some new movies, or should I say old movies? Also, look for some new screenshots. yeah, the title doesn't really grab you. but there are definitely other titles that can make me want to see a film without having even heard of it. yeah, i am close to jerking off to that faster pussycat! kill! kill! shot. that must be the case. but, maybe if you had a list without text, and one with text saved, just for those retards that can't handle your list, or in case they don't have a lot of time to look at it. if you did that, you could include it in a "spoiler" box on this forum, haha. that would be really cool. but obviously, you don't have to do that. yeah, re-animator is really good and fun. have you heard anything about the sequels? i want to check them out, kinda. yeah, i really like that shot. while the other one is a masterpiece, i think it is used a lot, at least more than the new one you have. i will keep my eyes out for cool ones for the ones you mentioned. sometimes i come across ones on someone's site or something that are cool, and lesser-used. that would be awesome (if you try it, i would definitely like to see it, because i don't know if i fully understand what it would look like). i just noticed your top directors, there is like two of them that aren't asian. What can I say? One doesn't need to see a screenshot from Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, but it certainly helps. Otherwise, it's just imagination. I saved the textful list, and even the previous version of my list, but really, if people aren't capable of understanding that they can click on the images, then they won't be able to find this textful list even if I tell them where it is. kiddo actually got my back on YMDB2, because he was like "you know you can click on the images, right guys?" That's why kiddo is The MAN. Yeah, that is funny that only around two of them aren't Asian. I'm going to work on diversifying the list a bit. It's a work in progress. I included a screenshot from Man With A Movie Camera for the director title image, which I've seen about ten minutes of but the new triphop soundtrack doesn't really work, in my opinion, with a movie made before music even hopped. And just a generic image of an animator, although I got one of Morimoto at the drawing board that doesn't look too bad coming up soon: Also links to an article (I should finish reading) about the history of animation. Thought it looked pretty good.

There's already a band called Faster Pussycat. What more do you want? I updated the list, breaking the textless rule but hopefully making it easier to understand. If reading's your thing, then hopefully people will notice the text link. Otherwise, they'll have trouble going through life. I shuffled some movies around - Pierrot le Fou fuckin' fell because I realized that I just didn't want to put in a lot of effort to see it on the big screen, plus I rewatched a bit of it today and it just didn't really impress me - which was actually quite hard. I made a lot of mistakes too, so hopefully I fixed 'em all. I know Misumi Kenji is going on the director's list, once I hit version three. I'm not really going to work on it until then, because I still haven't seen a lot of his work and it's already a pain just working on the movies, but hopefully the new director's list will include more non-Asian directors. I saw a bit of the Man With The Movie Camera, but the triphop soundtrack it was paired with really didn't work for me.

I've been at this thing a lot lately:
+the Man With A Movie Camera* (9/10) +Little Nemo: Winsor McCay and His Animated Comics (1911 - 9/10)
* Ronin Gai (10/10) and the first Lone Wolf and Cub movie (10/10) will make the list, but I'm not sure how to fit them in exactly.
At the expense of two local unnamed favorites. It happens.
* I ended up watching the Man With A Movie Camera with the triphop soundtrack muted. It, apparently, is a highly-valued version of the movie, but that doesn't mean I have to respect it or even listen to it. Instead, I set up my own alternative soundtrack: Grand Finale (Final Fantasy 6 arranged album) by Uematsu Nobuo. Worked out well enough.
I'm going to continue just doing boot-outs, where I replace one movie with another I feel more attached with, for a little while at least. Then, Version 3, I'm going to do a complete overhaul (needs it even now, but I don't have the time) to the list and some of the orderings.

Sorry, I didn't see this reply. Yeah, pretty much, but that's what happens with hair metal.
I wrote Top 100+ on the top, breaking the textless rule. As for Pierrot le Fou, I probably won't buy it. I still think it's a good movie, but it's not one I need in my DVD collection.
Non-Asian directors would include (excluding Russian animator Khitruk and the listed Romero and Jodorowsky): Kiarostami, Jarmusch, Meyer, Tarantino, Blomkamp, Svankmajer and some others.)
Going to shuffle it up a bit soon. I want to get rid of a lot of the movies on the list that I don't really care all that much about. Diversity is great, but I don't need a whole lot of it, because then otherwise I should watch more movies that aren't from USA, Japan or South Korea.

I've been working on my list in HTML format now. I'm going to polish it up a little bit before 2007 wraps up, but I'd like to hear any suggestions if you have them. Although "fuck off, your list sucks" probably isn't as much of a suggestion as an invitation... for me to hunt you down. Also, I have decided to make a list of 100 movies I want to see in 2008 (going with the slot format, of course). I'm not quite there yet, but I'm looking to see if you have any suggestions to diversify it a little bit. I don't really want to see any Criterion suggestions, but more if there are any movies that fit the theme, then let me know. A Better Tomorrow II Apocalypse Now Battle Royale 1 Battlefield Baseball Bio Zombie Brindead/Dead Alive Bruiser Calimari Wrestler Cemetary Man Circle of Iron
City of the Living Dead, City of the Dead Coffy Come Drink With Me, Dragon Gate Inn, A Touch of Zen Crazies Dark City Deliverance Django Dolemite Drunken Master I and II Easy Rider
