Love him, he makes missteps all the time. But when he is on, he is really on.

Here are my thoughts:
She's Gotta Have It is a really good film, surprisingly, because it looked like crap. It was very well-written and fairly well-acted considering most of the people hadn't acted a ton before. The dialogue seems real but also is funny. Overall not a masterpiece but an enjoyable film.
Do the Right Thing is one of my favorite films ever made. While I disagree with the message behind the film, well at least Spike's message, it gets me thinking and gets me wanting to talk about the film. The performances are outstanding and the whole film feels real, Spike will never make a film this good ever again.
Malcolm X I have but haven't watched yet. I will soon but I want to be in the right mood, it looks pretty boring to me.
Original Kings of Comedy is not my cup of tea. I don't like "black comedy" at all and while I respect the comedians in the film I generally get tired by their jokes.
Surprisingly enough that is all I remember seeing. I have a mixed view on him, while I liked most of the films I have seen by him I still hate what he does in his films. He tries, and fails to hide, the racism which is evident in every frame of films. He is constantly irritating me with every single comment he makes. Things like when people don't like his films he tries to make it a race thing, it pisses me off to no end.
I am still going to see his films; I find him talented but I still can't stand him.

Well, I like what I`ve seen. Do the Right Thing is a great film, and I think Lee both acts and directs very well. I don`t feel that he try to force on his own opinions in a very high grade, though. I think he manage to open up questions, rather than pointing out what is what and who is who. The confusing conclusion makes you think, consider your own prejudices.
I recommend you to see 25th Hour, cm. It`s a very well told, (extremely) well acted film, which manage to ask several questions. I espesially love the acting of Philip Seymour Hoffman in this film (and in general); he manage to convey so much insecurity and shyness. The film is worth seeing only because of him. Trust me.

Yeah, that was one of the next Spike films I wanted to see. I will probably rent it soon, maybe from the library.

Still haven't rented that, haha, but I will see it sometime. I have a review to post of Malcom X, which I will throw up somewhere, sometime soon. But anyways, here is some cool news:
Spike Lee to Shoot World War II Drama[/b] Source: Variety June 6, 2007
Spike Lee will shoot an Italy-set World War II drama based on "Miracle at St. Anna," U.S. author Walter McBride's novel about black American soldiers fighting the German army in the mountains of Tuscany.
Variety says the project is about the true tale of four members of the U.S. army's 92nd division of all-black soldiers, who in 1944 became trapped in a Tuscan village, as they contended with their racist, incompetent commanders and the Nazis.
"This is a big-budget project which will feature a mostly American cast," Italian producer Luigi Musini said.
McBride, who besides "Miracle" is author of bestselling memoir "The Color of Water," is writing the screenplay. Casting is being decided.
The plan is to start shooting next year on Tuscan WWII combat locations.

As an executive producer, Lee will help guide the key creative and production elements of the film. Lee previously served as a judge in the selection process for the film's director and hosted a screening of the director finalists' shorts at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City.
Nominated for two Academy Awards and the director of over 30 feature films, Spike Lee is one of the world's most accomplished filmmakers. His directorial credits include She's Gotta Have It (1986), Do the Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992), Summer of Sam (1999), 25th Hour (2002) and Inside Man (2006). In addition to his achievements as a director, Lee is an award winning writer, actor and producer.
