Basic Plot according to IMDB:An English anthropologist (Christopher Lee) has discovered a frozen monster in the frozen wastes of Manchuria which he believes may be the Missing Link. He brings the creature back to Europe aboard a trans-Siberian express, but during the trip the monster thaws out and starts to butcher the passengers one by one.
This film is good for many reasons: Great music by John Cacavas (who did music for The Satanic Rites of Dracula), The Cushing-Lee Duo, Interesting charactors, and the monster effects.
The film begins in the icy mountains of Manchuria where you see Alexander Saxton (Christopher Lee) being led by a chinese man into a cave. He points his light around to see: the creature.
Mr.Saxton brings the creature onto the trans-siberian express where he meets Dr.Wells (Peter Cuching) a long time colleague and competetor. Right before they leave for the train, a robber is killed trying to break into the case with the creature. When the police chief turns the body over, he discovers the mans eyes are white.
On the train, Dr.Wells pays the baggage man to sneak a peek into the case. He is found dead with his eyes white too.
This is where I stop the review. To go any furthur would ruin the story.
The rest of the movie has humor, fright, action, and Science Fiction. The effects are very good and I can guarentee an enjoyable viewing.
One of the enjoyable points to the film is the Cushing-Lee duo. The two men act quick to solve the mystey in the movie with wit can cunning observations. It is a great sight to see when used to the Dracula-Helsing fights so often seen with the two actors.
But to enjoy the film to the most, you have to get the Euroshock Collection release of Horror Express. Before I got that version, I had a bad quality full screen dark copy where I couldnt see what was going on in the night fights. But the Euroshock Version is in 1:66:1 Widescreen format which is very impressive for a film of such merit. It may go for a little pricey online, but it is worth the price (unless its above 50 dollars. I cant see why anyone would sell it for so high).
The only feature on the disk is a music only track in which you can fully aprecciate the music of John Cacavas. Sadly, the box is a paper flip case (which I loathe). But a good thing is it comes with a very informative flap describing the film and how it was made. Aside from that, the presentation alone is a good enough special feature.
I want to infor my regrets to Kiddo who asked for my opinions on the movie when i purchased it several months ago. I can only say that this is an excellent nderrated film that is definently worth a viewing. It wont be a waste of your time.
