Dan I would also like to hear your reason for not liking Pink Floyd. What are they to poppy? Are the two songs you have herd by them not good? Or do you just not like them because other people do?
I like Pink Floyd a lot. I have only herd Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and one of they're live albums. All were fantastic and I really want to hear the Wall and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

They are amazing. They pioneered the use of electronics in music. There early records with Syd Barrett are mindblowing technically and totally psychedelic. After Syd fell into mental illness, they became a totally different band. Darkside of the Moon is a total masterpiece, no one can deny its greatness. Wish You Were Here is on the same level. The Wall comes close, but it is a tad too bloated to be considered a true masterpiece. Atom Heart Mother and Animals are also great records. Obscured by Clouds is very underrated as is A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The Division Bell is the only Floyd record which I really don't care for. Overall, a totally amazing band.

I think a lot of people try to be cool liking them. I go to the mall and see like 20 people wearing Pink Floyd stuff. But they could actually like them, I don't know them, but I think half of them are just trying to be cool.

I do think they are very overrated, and don’t see why people think they are so good. I used to like them more after my aunt gave me their poster I listened to a lot of their stuff so I wouldn’t embarrass myself by hanging it up without hearing much from them. I liked it, and said I did before. But then I realized I never listened to it again, it was on my MP3 player and I would always skip over the songs. Talented, but I can’t say I am a fan. I tend to not like bands when I don’t like to listen to their stuff, even if they are talented.
And as for the people trying to be cool thing, definitely agree with Blackmoses. Seriously, why does everyone feel the need to like this band? Obviously some do, but it just gets irritating seeing SO many people wearing Pink Floyd stuff a lot. I don’t think a lot of them actually like them that much. It’s just like Paris Hilton wearing the Rolling Stones tongue shirts, she basically ruined that for me, and I know she doesn’t really like them. She just thinks it is “hot.” Which is really what I feel a lot of people do, wear stuff they don’t really like just because they like the shirt.
God, my hands are getting tired!

I don't think a lot of people even know that they are wearing a Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd shirt. Because it doesn't say them name of the band and they see so many other people wearing the stuff they just get it aswell.

I have a great idea. Me and Dan should take Dan's camera to the mall and we should ask everyone we see wearing a Pink floyd or Rolling Stones shirt if they actually know what they are wearing. Anyone think we should do that?

Most people who wear the Pink Floyd shirts like the crazy designs and such. They don't understand that Pink Floyd is even a band sometimes.
I forgot Ummagumma, an excellent record with one of the wackiest covers of all time. That mirror just blows my mind.
They are very overrated, you don't see how they are so good?? Does this say anything about their music at all?? . No it doesn't, you don't list one reason why you don't like them other than the fact that others pretend to like them by wearing their shirts. Another one of your biggest faults right there. Not liking a band because others do.
You say you skipped over the songs on your MP3 player, so you don't like the band. That makes SO much sense. I skip over songs by some bands sometimes, because I don't feel like listening to them. That doesn't mean I don't like the bands.
This is another case where you need to hear more music from a band. You must hear Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Animals, The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Obscured by Clouds, Atom Heart Mother, and A Saucerful of Secrets. I think you will like the band after hearing these records. And if you don't, well then, you are gonna have to explain to me why you don't like them.

Anyone think we should do that? Yes, you should do that. I think that you will be surprised. More people like good music in this town than you think.

Well my main reason for not liking the music is that I never want to listen to it, I didn't say the music was bad, it is just that I don't like it enough that I ever play it. I like music that I actually want to put on and listen to from time to time, not just music that I am suppose to like. You know what I mean? There is no real reason I don't want to listen to the music, I just don't. And I do want to listen to some of their albums all the way through, in one sitting, since I have heard that is the best way to hear them. People wearing their stuff is not a reason I don't like them though, that is just something that pisses me off. I still like The Stones even though people where that fucking tongue like it is going out of style. I think that idea is just dumb enough to be fun, since we are hitting up the mall tomorrow maybe we will test it out.

You must hear Darkside of the Moon, WYWH, and The Wall all in one sitting. Or else the music is easily lost on you. The records were made as individual entities, not as songs to be heard separately. I do not consider your opinion on Floyd until you have done this.
God, I need to expose you to so much music, its not even funny. You don't know how to listen to music at all.

What the fuck, I listen to music so perfectly. I normally always listen in one sitting, you need to help Joel with his music listening. Seriously, Rubber Soul, not for another 20 years?! Anyways, I do need access to your CD collection sometime soon.

I guarantee that if you go to the mall, everyone who has a Floyd or Stones shirt on will tell you that they are wearing a Floyd or Stones shirt. Ill bet money on it, I know i just don't put on random ass band shirts (no music shirts at all, actually).
Id like to mention that Meddle is a cool album by Floyd, along with the others mention.

I love everything before the Wall. Everything after, I think is a little mediocre. Wish You Were Here is one of my favorite albums of all time, so I'm not bashing them or anything, but I really have a pretty strong distaste for the Wall. It's not awful or anything, but it is so bloated, like many double albums. Not overrated really, but I don't think they're one of the best bands of all time.

I can understand your dislike for the Wall, I feel it is sort of bloated as well. Though I do like most of the albums the band released after the Wall.

My favorite PF song has to be WYWH. Favorite album is Ummagumma. I've negleted listening to them for well over two years now. It used to be an everyday thing, but somehow I just stopped going back to them. Obscured by Clouds was always nice for a cruise too.

Yea, I just bought Obscured by Clouds, its another masterpiece from the Floyd. I forgot how underrated it was, I think it gets overshadowed by Darkside. Its also the soundtrack for the Barbet Schroeder film La Vallee, so maybe that will get snobby boy Dan interested.

Ahhh... They're okay. I loved The Wall (the movie) and the cd was great as well. I'm not crazy about them, but I don't mind them. I'd listen to it if I was in the mood.

I have been dying to see Maitresse and want to see Koko, General Idi Amin Dada, among others. I will check out the movie sometime, have you seen it before? But just because it is the soundtrack to a movie that may or may not be good doesn't mean I will like the music, but I will give it a listen sometime. Link to the DVD in case someone wanted to buy it or something.

Listened to Dark Side of the Moon after maybe 5 or 6 months of not hearing it. Such a masterpiece. Giving The Final Cut another chance right now, I'm liking what I'm hearing.

Yea, The Final Cut kicked more ass then I remembered, on to A Momentary Lapse of Reason now and then back to the beginning with Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I'm on a huge Floyd kick right now.

AMLOR is not as good as the Final Cut, but still underrated. I skipped PATGOD and went to Obscured by Clouds and now I'm on The Wall. Obscured is actually probably the better record, its shorter, with less filler and its less dependent on the storyline. PATGOD and maybe Saucerful after the Wall.

I found a pretty nice collection on our computer, I have:
The Division Bell The Wall The Final Cut Dark Side of The Moon Pulse Delicate Sound of Thunder
I'm still trying to rename all the damn songs, I found them in silly "Track 1, Track 2..." format. It's pretty difficult.

I'm doing lyricsondemand.com because I can search the lyrics as I hear them, because I've tried, but the tracks aren't listed in the right sequence. I accidentally listened to Pulse first, and I'm done with half of it but now I'm finding songs with no lyrics. I'll sort it out, no worries.

Pink Floyd Perform at Syd Barrett Memorial Concert From Gigwise.com David Gilmour and Roger Waters have performed separate sets at the Barbican Centre. The pair famously fell out 25 years ago.
Waters performed a solo set, while Gilmour was joined by original Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright to perform a selection of Barrett tracks including "Arnold Layne" – the group’s very first single together.
Also performing Barrett tracks on the night were the likes of Damon Albarn, Chrissie Hynde and Robyn Hitchcock.
A huge finale at the end of the show saw everyone, except Waters, join forces on stage to sing a rendition of "Bike."
Syd Barrett died at the age of 60 last year from complications linked to his diabetes problem.
They must really dislike each other. Playing at the same show but not playing together. Its depressing for us hoping for a reunion.
