Tour Dates: I'm thinking 8/10 and 8/20, which are the only two dates within two hours. Unless I can make my way to SPAC for 8/14....

73) Radiohead By Dave Matthews
Every time I buy a Radiohead album, I have a moment where I say to myself, "Maybe this is the one that will suck." But it never does. I wonder if it's even possible for them to be bad on record.
It belittles Radiohead to describe their music as having "hooks." Their music talks to you, in a real way. It can take you down a quiet street before it drops a beautiful musical bomb on you. It can build to where you think the whole thing will crumble beneath its own weight -- and then Thom Yorke will sing some melody that just cuts your heart out of your chest. There's a point on the album Kid A where I start feeling claustrophobic, stuck in a barbed-wire jungle -- and then I suddenly fall out and I'm sitting by a pool with birds singing. Radiohead can do all of these things in a moment, and it drives me fucking crazy.
My reaction to Radiohead isn't as simple as jealousy. Jealousy just burns; Radiohead infuriate me. But if it were only that, I wouldn't go back and listen to those records again and again. Listening to Radiohead makes me feel like I'm a Salieri to their Mozart. Yorke's lyrics make me want to give up. I could never in my wildest dreams find something as beautiful as they find for a single song -- let alone album after album. And every time, they raise their finger to the press and the critics and say, "Nothing we do is for you!" They followed their most critically acclaimed record, OK Computer, with their most radical change, Kid A. It's not that they're indifferent: It's that the strength of character in their music is beyond their control.
Seeing them perform makes me even angrier. No matter how much they let go in their shows, they never lose their clarity. There's no point where Jonny Greenwood or Ed O'Brien will suddenly look up and say, "Where the fuck are we?" There are no train wrecks in Radiohead; every album and performance is wrenching. God, these guys have suffered, or they can fake it like nobody else.
(From RS 972, April 21, 2005)
Its old, but I thought it was pretty cool.

I got tickets for August 10th at Burgettstown and August 20th at Blossom. I'm seated in actual seats at both concerts rather than the lawn, so that's pretty good.

It is definitely a much cooler experience to be in the lawn, from experience, of not only Dave, but other bands too (if there is no pit area). Wouldn’t you agree? You also got tickets so close together, that's a bit much.

I would see DMB seven days a week, 365 days a year if I could. So ten days apart isn't bad at all.
The lawn is an awesome experience no doubt. But for the show when I go with my mom (10th), she would prefer to be seated. I may end up trading my seats for the 20th for lawn tickets because my friend is my only ride there and I didn't get him a ticket. The only reason I didn't get the lawn at Blossom is because it is REALLY far from the stage, like 40 sections behind the stage. The stage is lower than the seats too, its not like Darien. So, if I'm on the lawn I'm gonna have a really shitty view of the band. But we'll see what happens.

Is No News Good News? Album News Posted by Jake Vigliotti 4/25/07 2:30 pm Most album years, tiny bits of information leaks out here and there, and fans generally have an idea of what to expect. So with the dearth of information out now, it's easy to see why fans are a bit edgy lately. Turns out there is a very good reason for the lack of info.
To sum it up: there ain't no info. Multiple sources tell antsmarching.org that the Dave Matthews Band recording session should be starting back up in late April or early May. According to sources, DMB began recording tracks in November 2006, and took an extended break in December for the holidays and began again in January. The band only recorded a few tracks, Shotgun, Idea Of You, and Can't Stop to name a few. Those were all recorded with the idea of using them for the next album. Sources say that Break Free has fallen out of favor, but was attempted in studio.
But the status of those recordings is up in the air. With the beginning of some fresh sessions, the previous recordings may be scrapped, and those songs may be re-recorded (then again, maybe they won't).
So, in reality, there literally isn't anything to report from the studio so far.
And just in case you're reading into something here that really isn't here, a source familiar with the recording sessions says that the band is right now very together musically.
What does that all mean? Rather than look historically at DMB years and wonder which it would be most like, the songs for the tour this year will be unique. Expect some material to come about while on tour (similar to Loving Wings and Can't Stop did), and expect some new songs to change considerably while on tour (as Raven and Crazy-Easy did). You can also expect to see some songs come and go (Kill The King and Sweet Up And Down).
As always, things change dramatically. As a personal example, I remember seeing a show in Tampa in 2000, and during Raven, turning to my wife and saying, "We'll be hearing this song for the next few years!" In other words, if you want to hear some of this new stuff, get your tickets for This Tour. Don't make the mistake of presuming what you'll hear in the next few tours. Who knows what they'll play next year.
The last word had the album slated for a November-ish release. That date could move up or down dramatically.
Article about the new album from antsmarching.org. Not sure if I believe it or not, but I usually trust Jake. Anyway, if Break Free and Kill the King truly were dropped, I'm glad I saw them live.

I forgot to post this earlier. Those Vegas shows that I was raving about a month ago are being released as Live Trax 9. I would rather have an older show but the tapes from those shows are awesome, so you are not going to find me complaining.
Also, from The Warehouse by way of antsmarching.org The Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds show this past Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Radio City Music Hall was a truly special and memorable evening of music in one of the world’s best entertainment venues.
We are pleased to announce that the Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds April 22, 2007 show at Radio City Music Hall in New York, New York will soon be released on both CD and DVD! This would be the first official Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds release since the 1999 double CD set: Live at Luther College. Please stay tuned for Radio City Pre-Order details. Until that time, we hope you enjoy this spectacular photograph taken at the show by photographer/DVD co-director Sam Erickson.
Finally, a new D&T release plus a DVD! I can't wait.

Posted by Jake Vigliotti from antsmarching.org Stefan has confirmed what we pretty much knew: things are moving slowly regarding the new album.
In an interview with The Brisbane Times regarding the upcoming album, Stefan says, "We’re on a bit of a creative break as far as working in the studio – we’ve been in pre-production for a long time, but we’ll get more serious later in the year."
What that means most likely is that whatever studio work was to occur in May is probably on hold for now. Again, we can probably expect a few new songs this tour, but it seems that the bulk of the studio work will be done after the US tour.
I'm ok with this, but I don want to see at least three new songs on the summer tour.

Tom Morello guested with DMB tonight in Portugal! He opened for them as the Nightwatchman and played on #41 and American Baby Intro. Now, I wonder acoustic or electric?

Grey Street is the song, its got many sets of lyrics. I'm guessing you heard the Busted Stuff version, so here are those lyrics.
Oh look at how she listens She says nothing of what she thinks She just goes stumbling through her memories Staring out on to Grey Street. She thinks, "Hey, how did I come to this?" I dream myself a thousand times around the world But I can't get out of this place. There's an emptiness inside her And she'll do anything to fill it in But all the colors mix together - to grey And it breaks her heart How she wishes it was different She prays to God most every night And though she swears it doesn't listen There's still a hope in her it might She says "I pray oh But they fall on deaf ears, am I supposed to take it on myself? To get out of this place? " Oh There's a lonliness inside her And she'll do anything to fill it in And though it's red blood bleeding from her now It feels like cold blue ice in her heart When all the colors mix together - to grey And it breaks her heart There's a stranger speaks outside her door Says take what you can from your dreams Make them as real as anything Oh It'd take the work out of courage But she says "Please There's a crazy man that's creeping outside my door, I live on the corner of Grey Street and the end of the world." Oh there's an emptiness inside her And she'll do anything to fill it in And though it's red blood bleeding from her now It's more like cold blue ice in her heart She feels like kicking out all the windows And setting fire to this life She could change everything about her Using colors bold and bright But all the colors mix together - to grey And it breaks her heart It breaks her heart To Grey
