U2 is one of the greatest bands of all time. And Dan is gonna come in here and say he doesn't like their 80's pop sound. And I'm gonna bitch him out like always because pop music is not bad music. Plus, U2 isn't even pop, they are rock in the first degree. You show me another band that sounds like U2 and is a pop band. Are there any? No.

Hated everything I have heard, but I have like 6 of their CD's at my house that I will listen to someday. Seriously, do all these bands need their own thread? I don't think a single person on the forum even likes Bruce Springsteen other than you, beed, and blackmoses.

How would you know?? Did you personally interview each member? Springsteen and U2 are heralded as two of the greatest bands/artists of all time, they each deserve a thread. Just because YOU don't like a band doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a thread.

True, but I am just guessing they wouldn't like him since they don't seem to like stuff like him. I guess they deserve a thread...

Dan, you should make a sub-board in the music thread called bands or something and people can make threads for bands.

We don't need a whole forum of sub-boards. Make band thread in the normal music forum.

Putting all the music genres and bands in one forum should be fine. Back to the original debate... U2 rocks it. Exhibit AExhibit BMaybe they don't rock it as much as other bands, but that's not really the point. They don't call him The Edge for nothing. Although, I have wondered, why name the band U2? I think I may have looked this up before, but I forgot why they named it U2. Could someone look this up for me? (even though it should be pretty easy to look up.) Might want to list Bono and the Edge if you're able to as well. Thanks.

"The origin of the name U2 is not clear. Although it is also the name of a famous 1960s surveillance plane, the Lockheed U-2, the Dublin punk rock guru Steve Averill (better known as Steve Rapid of The Radiators From Space) claimed that it was chosen by the band from a list of ten names created by him and Adam Clayton. In an interview with Larry King, Bono is quoted as saying "I don't actually like the name U2," and "I honestly never thought of it as 'you too'."

Oh yeah, I thought it was something like that. Wikipedia also says that basically, Bono just kind of got the name after a while, and they couldn't really decide on how the Edge got his name, but I remember the sharp profile of his face and nose bit so I think that's probably what it was.
U2 still rocked it with Bullet the Blue Sky, even though now I'm not as impressed with Sepultura's cover as I was back in 'the day.

Oh, by the way, according to my aunt, the U2 guru, in Dublin there was a hearing aid store called bonohas or something of the sort, and one of Bono's buddies took the beginning of the name and gave it to him.
And I'm still waiting for an answer from Agentknight.

Yea, the ironic thing about him was that less than six months ago, he was asking me for musical help because he was a self-proclaimed music noob. These days, he wants nothing to do with my opinions or recommendations and he thinks he is God of music. Amazing how someone can gain so much music knowledge in a few short months.

Their music mostly bores me. I can listen to it, but it doesn't make me feel special in my insides... I don't see the point, then.

U2 Re-release "Joshua Tree" To celebrate the 20th birthday of its landmark album "The Joshua Tree," U2 is reissuing the set in four different incarnations on Nov. 20 via UMe. The album will be available as a remastered single CD, a 2-CD set, a 2-CD/1-DVD collectible box and a double-vinyl package.
The single-disc will be housed in a jewel case, but the 2-CD set comes in a hard back case. The 2-CD/1-DVD version has a base and lid to accommodate the discs as well as five portfolio prints. Band members have contributed new liner notes for the package.
Of most interest to fans is the inclusion of rare material on the expanded editions. Although details have yet to be announced, "Joshua Tree" demos, alternate versions and B-sides from the period are expected to appear.
The DVD is understood to comprise a July 4, 1987, show at the Paris Hippodrome, as well as the documentary "Outside It's America."
Produced by Brian Eno, "The Joshua Tree" shot U2's commercial fortunes into the stratosphere. The album's first three tracks were huge singles, with both "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
