I am going to turn this into just a general Bob Dylan thread. He is just one of the best song writers ever and if you haven't please check out the documentary Don't Look Back. It is just a brilliant look at one of the best ever.

Yeah, that's probably for the best.
I don't know about any one else here, but whenever I listen to Blonde on Blonde at length, I feel like painting. I don't paint that much anymore, so eventually it turned into a I listen to that album while I paint kind of thing, but I still feel like it can inspire me, instead of just listening to it as filler.
I still haven't fully gotten into Nashville Skyline. I can listen to it from time to time without a problem, but it's not like I'm like, okay, I wanna listen to this. (I got it as a gift.)
I've listened to a few songs here and there, but honestly, I'm probably the only one here who hasn't checked out all of his stuff. Back when I still bought albums, I'd really only buy one or two from any particular musician, regardless of how I felt about them, because I wanted to have a large understanding of many different bands. So that's my excuse, now here's Dave with sports.

There was some thing in a Rolling Stone about a new Bob Dylan movie? With Cate Blanchet (sp?) playing Bob? I didn't get a good look but has anyone heard about this?

I'm Not There: Suppositions on a Film Concerning DylanIn 2005 preproduction began on a film entitled I'm Not There: Suppositions on a Film Concerning Dylan. The movie makes use of seven characters to represent the different aspects of Dylan's life. The movie is to be directed by Todd Haynes, and the cast currently includes Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and Richard Gere. Sounds like it could be pretty interesting. "The iconic singer-songwriter will be depicted through seven distinct stages of his life by multiple actors (including a woman, Cate Blanchett, at one point)." This quote alone makes me interested in how it will turn out. I mean, Dylan doesn't look like a girly man or anything, so it'd be interesting to see if if they pull it off.

They actually had a picture in Rolling Stone w/Cate dressed as him and before I read the article I didn't even realize it wasn't Dylan. Of course it was an above shot so you didn't get to clearly see the face, but still she looked pretty convincing.

I love Bob Dylan, he is the greatest lyricist of all time. His early records, such as "Freewheelin,'Blood on the Tracks, Blonde on Blonde, Highway 61 Revisited, The Times They are A-Changin and Bringing it All Back Home are all technically perfect. His later records are very inconsistent, but there are some excellent records hidden among the average ones. His new record is one of those excellent ones.

I think his last three (Time Out of Mind, Love and Theft, and Modern Times) have all been fantastic. The eighties was certainly his worst period.

I was reading this Dylan book and at the end they ranked his songs. I really only remember three of the top four but here is what I remember:
4. "Desolation Row" 3. "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" 2. ? 1. "Like A Rolling Stone"
I was just glad to see my favorite of his so high up there ("Sad Eyed Lady...").

For interested parties: Tarantula is really weird. Here's a little bit of information behind it, and yeah, the first sentence starts out with "aretha/ crystal jukebox queen of hymn & him diffused in drunk transfusion" ...which I can't even wrap my head around. (I can handle some stream of consciousness, even though this is the wrong place to be discussing literature, but shit alive, aretha/? First word of the book and there's already a slash? It blows my mind.) I don't have a handy list of my favorite Bob Dylan songs in order, but I do like Stuck Inside the Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, all of Blonde on Blonde for that matter, Knockin' On Heaven's Door of course and Like A Rolling Stone in no particular order. I haven't listened to much of Bob Dylan's music, unfortunately, but I'm on an overall movie kick, not music kick, so there's not a lot I can do at the moment besides watch some Bob Dylan related movies.

Well if you want to do that watch No Direction Home. I had been having problems with "Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again" I thought it was "Stuck Inside a Mobile..." then I thought the same as you, both for reasons unknown. I guess it doesn't matter but it sounds weird to say "stuck inside of mobile," but I will get used to it.

I do need to check out No Direction Home sometime. Eventually... Well, I got the title 90%+ accurate. I think the reason why it's Stuck Inside of Mobile is that I remember hearing that the song was about the decay of a city or something. I don't know. Dylan's lyrics are almost as bad (weird, not poor quality) as the Mars Volta's, so if there's a point to the lyrics, all the better.

There are so many you need to check out, out of his albums, like Blood on the Tracks, Taking It All Back Home, and others. Obviously Highway 61 Revisited, too, but the other two I listed are more my personal choices.

i have been downloading a lot of dylan bootleg albums and stuff, and found one that may be one of the best albums i have ever heard, "blind boy grunt". i can't believe some of these songs aren't more popular. has anyone heard or heard of the album? also, i heard "nashville skyline" and it was fantastic. does anyone know why his voice was so different for this album?

^It wasn't that good But anyway, I downloaded a four disc bootleg of the Rolling Thunder Revue sessions called Going Going Guam. The sound quality isn't perfect, but the performances are very good. Especially the versions of Isis.
