He has done more for the guitar as an instrument than virtually any other person in the history of music. His use of effects, feedback, and his amazing live shows took the guitar and hard rock out of obscurity and into the mainstream. He is often viewed as "The Wild Man From Borneo", but he also had this quiet side to him. Axis: Bold as Love is one of the single most beautiful records of all time. His guitar playing is so beautiful on the record that it is often hard to listen to. If you listen to his posthumous records, you can tell that Jimi had so much to offer. Yet another genius taken from the world too early.

Jimi Hendrix is amazing. I would put their albums in this order: 1. 2. 3.

Under-appreciation of the Experience's masterpiece as usual. But that's ok. Check out Jimi's posthumous records, First New Rays of the Rising Sun, Blues, and South Saturn Delta for more Hendrix. Then move to live records, Band of Gypsies, with the mindblowing Machine Gun, and countless other live records with the Experience.

Truly amazing. I would rank the albums:
1. Are You Experienced? 2. Axis: Bold as Love 3. Electric Ladyland
All are great though, the documentary Electric Ladyland made me like Jimi even more than I already did. It showed him behind the scenes and some of his close friends talking about him, he was a master.

Me Hendrix rankings: 1. Axis: Bold as Love 2. Electric Ladyland 3. Are You Experienced?
Posthumous: 1. Blues 2. First New Rays of the Rising Sun 3. South Saturn Delta 4. BBC Sessions
Live: 1. Band of Gypsys 2. Live at Filmore East 3. Live at Berkely 4. Live at Woodstock 5. Live at the Isle of Wight 6. Live at Winterland 7. Jimi Plays Monterey 8. Stages 9. The Jimi Hendrix Concerts (Not recommended, along with the rest of the Alan Douglas released stuff, stick with the stuff released by the Hendrix family)

The great thing about the title is that it can refer to the band or just the experience of listening to The Man in action. I named my computer after the Machine Gun performance on Band of Gypsies. Well, if the name being in Hungarian [gep puska, or Geppuska] counts. That's how much I dig that song. Uhh... Captain, you forgot the BBC sessions. I've only heard a few of his total discography, so I'm not going to do a list, and you will like that. If we ignore the conventional choices on Are You Experienced? - Purple Haze, Fire and even Red House - my favorite song off the album would be Highway Chile.

No i didn't forget the BBC sessions, they are under posthumous records cause they are not really a live show per se.

Oh, I was looking for the BBC sessions under Live, because as I recall, most BBC sessions were recorded live without much studio after effects. Sure, they were recorded live in studios, but I still classify that as Live.

You could consider it either, but it was still in the studio, so I consider it studio.

Has anyone heard his cover of Like A Rolling Stone? I think its a perfect cover, close to the brilliance of the original. Hendrix is the master of the cover tune...

Of course. I haven't really listened to much of his work lately, but I mean, he's one of the more local musicians that's actually worth checking out. Gotta check him out around here.

RIP Mitch Mitchell. Definitely one of my favorite drummers of all time.
Man, this has been a tough year for deaths in the music business...

Not just the music industry, but everywhere, lots of famous people have died this year. I think that's probably because of our world culture, where now even some white kid in the sticks knows about obscure African musicians and (very crude humor ahead) can hear about their passing before they even drop to the floor. As for the previous discussion, Hendrix was born in Seattle, in I believe one of the major hospitals in actual downtown Seattle, and locals like that a lot. Unfortunately, we forget that Hendrix had to move to England to really get famous, but we like famous people that have spent time in the area, like Bruce Lee and Kurt Cobain. (A secret about Seattleites: Seattle is relative. I say I live in Seattle because you've never heard of the town I live in. 75% of "Seattle" bands did not form in the city of Seattle, they probably formed in some town no one cares about, or if they did, they'd probably think of as a small district.) As for Heart, from what I've heard, they went to high school near where I went to college, in Bellevue, which around here we think is a pretty bitchin' part of town because everything is so expensive, but in other parts of the country, Bellevue is an insane asylum. I think it fits the locals around here too.
