I feel if there is one person in all of music who doesn't quite get the respect they deserve, its Neil Young. He is one of the few artists who hasn't missed a beat since the early sixties. He has continually produced quality albums year after year. Even his eighties albums aren't that bad. He hasn't let drugs or deaths derail his amazing musical strength. And damn has he wrote some tunes...

Well, I tried to listen to Tonight's the Night, but I... just couldn't dig it at all. Young seemed to be whining more than singing, in my honest opinion, either that, or it was just too grating on my nerves. The next album by him I'll try to check out is the Dead Man soundtrack, since I liked the guitar work in that movie. And here's a list of the albums I was going to check out, but will probably wait a while for: After the Gold Rush, Harvest, Tonight's the Night and Harvest Moon. Sorry I wasn't able to get through any of these recommendations right now Chris. Maybe later?

Tonight's the Night is a pretty difficult album, I guess. Young's singing is at its most harsh and its probably a bit difficult to stomach if you aren't a big fan of his voice. I personally like the raw feel, but I can definitely see where you are coming from.
Dead Man soundtrack is nothing like the music from the movie, just to give you a warning. There are some sections of Johnny Depp speaking and sections of Depp reading William Blake's poetry. Its not all haunted guitar. But I think its still worth a listen.

Well, his singing (I would say whining, but that's just me) always sounds like that to me. Even on Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's Ohio. Thanks for the head's up, though I kind of expected something like that from it anyways. It'd be kind of boring if it were just "haunted" guitar work, because really, anyone could do that.

I totally get what you mean by 'whining' but I thought most songs on the album hawks and doves 'just' avoided being whiny or perhaps too whiny. Anyway, hawks and doves, I liked the album moderately, absolutely loved the song lost in space. Which album shall I try next?!
