New record in Year Zero (which I plan on purchasing later today). to prepare I popped in The Downward Spiral for the first time in a while. So excellent, single handedly invented "Industrial" music.

Honestly, my mind is blown by the whole scheme around Year Zero. The alternate reality game is so complex, its boggling. The different offshoots of it and the way that Reznor is treating his fans to this stuff just shows how loyal he is to his fans. Now only if other bands treated their fans this way...

Yes, Year Zero was quite awesome. Not TDS or The Fragile level, but its still one of the best of the year so far.

I need a NIN album recommendation or two.
Never really got into the band proper, and after a friend mentioned it was one of his favorite bands (though he's only listened to individual songs), I need a good starting album. I've heard some NIN songs, so I know what's in store.

I'd probably say The Downward Spiral or Pretty Hate Machine. The Downward Spiral is definitely the stronger album, but PHM is good if you want to start at the beginning and work your way forward.

I might actually want to go chronologically with Pretty Hate Machine, and not just because that's a good excuse not to start out with something strong like the Downward Spiral. (It's perfectly possible. Black/Death/Whatever Metal is too strong for me.)
Thanks.

New NIN record up for free on their website. Nice. Soon, Zappa will seem lazy. Did you hear it yet? I just got the download link sent to my email, and will probably hear it sometime this week.

I'm listening to it right now. So far, I think it's a little better than Year Zero, then again, NIN and I are just getting to know each other. We've really only been to first base, so there's still more to discover and learn...
In other words, I liked Ghosts better.

I'm not sure whether I like Ghosts or The Slip better, but I do prefer both to Year Zero.
