Marilyn Manson is a rock band based in Los Angeles, California. They usually advocate nonconformity which is one of their notions that founded the accusation that they are a "shock rock" band. They show influences from industrial to glam rock. As a whole, Marilyn Manson is highly difficult to categorize as each album has a distinct and individual image and sound. The band was formed in 1989 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as "Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids". The band's uniquely theatrical performances gathered a local cult following that subsequently developed into a worldwide fanbase.

Marilyn Manson's reputation has likewise grown, with the band now considered one of modern music's most widely-known and most controversial; this has been due, in large part, to eponymous lead singer Marilyn Manson — born Brian Warner — and his frequent clashes with religious and political figures. The name of each band member was originally created by combining the first name of an iconic female sex symbol and the last name of an iconic mass murderer or serial killer. The members of the band dress in outlandish makeup and costumes, and have engaged in intentionally shocking behavior both onstage and off. Their lyrics often receive criticism for their anti-religious sentiment and their references to sex, drugs, and violence, but the band members actually have an intelligent and different outlook on things than most people. Marilyn Manson's music and performances have frequently been called offensive and obscene, and, more than a few times, protests and petitions have led to the group being banned from performing.

As this controversy began to wane, so did the band's mainstream popularity. Despite this, its many devoted fans have made Marilyn Manson a consistently high-profile group: three of the band's albums have been awarded platinum certification and three more have been awarded gold, and the band has seen three of its releases debut in the top ten, including two number-one albums. In June 2003, Jon Wiederhorn of MTV.com referred to Marilyn Manson as "the only true artist today".

I really dislike them/him. Musically, they rip too much from Nine Inch Nails. Plus, the whole image over actual music thing really angers me. Not to mention that Marilyn himself has poor vocal range.

Eat Me, Drink Me is Marilyn Manson's upcoming sixth studio album, scheduled for release on June 5, 2007. Eat Me, Drink Me was recorded in a rented home-recording studio in Hollywood, California by lead vocalist Marilyn Manson and guitarist and bassist Tim Sköld. A press-conference with Manson in April 2007 revealed that the album itself was a collaboration strictly between himself and Tim Sköld, causing speculation as to who performed the apparent drum and keyboard duties. It was produced by Marilyn Manson and Tim Sköld, and mixed by Sean Beavan. It has been stated that there were originally around 20 songs, all written by Sköld. Manson stated that he had a difficult time cutting some of them, but felt he had to in order to prevent the album from being "diluted". It will be released in two versions: a standard and a special collector's edition.

Leak
On May 1, 2007, the entire album was leaked onto several peer-to-peer networks. In a speculated response to the leak, Marilyn Manson commissioned DJ Ryan Manno on Q101 in Chicago to play the entire album on their radio station at 11:00 PM the following day.

Oh, sweet. Obviously I won't buy this, at least not right away, but I look forward to listening to this. Have you checked out any of the album yet?

Not yet, I don't really know how to look deep enough to find it. And obviously it'll be out here much later than June, I'm sure of it. I've checked out the lyrics, they aren't anythign special and give the album an almost wimpy feeling compared to his others. I'll go see if I can find any tidbits anywhere. Did you listen to it yet, I just noticed that tonight and was going to listen to it, but I probably won't end up listening to it until sometime tomorrow?

Yeah, my favourite is still "Heart-shaped Glasses", look out for it. I listened to most of it (I stopped, I was going out) and it sounded not better than Golden Age of Grotesque, but not really bad. It sounded pretty average, actually. I expected it to be this awe-inspiring piece of work, and that probably spoiled it for me. I'll buy it when I get a chance, anyhow.

LOS ANGELES - Marilyn Manson’s former keyboardist has sued the shock rocker, claiming he kept millions of dollars meant to be shared and bought items including a handbag owned by Hitler’s girlfriend and a skeleton in a wheelchair.

Stephen Bier — whose stage name was Madonna Wayne Gacy — says he, Manson and other band members signed a partnership agreement in 1993 to share profits.

The suit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims Manson and others deceived Bier into thinking the band wasn’t making much money.

Bier says he began to think differently several years ago when Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, went on a spending binge. He claims Manson owes him at least $20 million in shared profits.

From 2004 to 2006, the suit claims, Manson used band money to buy a $2 million home, collect Nazi paraphernalia and to give his fiancee at the time a handbag once owned by Eva Braun.

Manson also bought “African masks made of human skin, the full skeleton of a 4-year-old Chinese girl, and the full skeleton of a 17th-century male in a wheelchair,” the suit claims.

In addition, the suit claims Manson spent band money on personal drug treatment, a low-budget movie production, a Los Angeles gallery to display his artwork and about $450,000 for an engagement ring and his wedding to burlesque performer Dita Von Teese. She has since filed for divorce.

Bier contends that Manson and the band’s lawyer and business managers cut off his salary payments and band credit card access and refused to pay his medical bills for work-related problems.

Manson’s agent did not immediately return a call Saturday. But in an interview Thursday with MTV News, Manson denied the allegations and said he would fight them.

“The fact that he’s claiming that I’ve treated him unfairly, financially, is really ridiculous,” the singer said. “And I would never spend my money on a Chinese girl skeleton. That would be crossing the line. It’s a Chinese boy, for the record.”
