One of my favorite bands and another big four grunge band. Ironically, they were the band who shied away from the grunge image the most and they are the only grunge band that still remains relevant today. Though, these days they don't sound much like grunge. They have branched out into many types of music and released quality album after quality album. A truly classic group that is probably the most consistent band of our era.

“Ten” is one of the best albums I have ever heard, and I am such an idiot to let my dad sell that off back in the day, we both loved the album; I don't even remember why we got rid of so much good stuff. I will re-buy it sometime. Beed, is that your favorite album by them? If not, what is? Might as well rank the albums you have heard, since blackmoses has a few of them, then I can decide what to listen to.

No, Ten is not my favorite album by them. I have heard LOTS of Pearl Jam, including every studio album, so I will list the studio albums only from favorite to least favorite.
1. Vs 2. Ten 3. Vitalogy 4. Yield 5. No Code 6. Pearl Jam 7. Binaural 8. Riot Act 9. Lost Dogs (an odds and sods collection, recommended only for the hardcore fan)
I enjoy every single one of those albums, all of them being excellent pieces of music.

I haven't heard so much, and I hated Jeremy, for instance. But I loved Do The Evolution and the video for it rocks as well.

Jeremey is an awesome song. I love the lyrics and the little bass line. One of PJ's best songs.

Well, it sounded too much like something I dislike for me to like it, if that makes sense. I forgot what that something was, but the song makes me feel all icky.

Eh, whatever. I heard Do the Evolution live, it was awesome. Here is the setlist I heard: Set I Better Man Given To Fly Worldwide Suicide Life Wasted Severed Hand Faithfull Unemployable Gone Daughter/(It's Okay) MFC Immortality Lukin Do The Evolution Spin The Black Circle Porch Set II E1: Wasted Reprise Thumbing My Way Inside Job Black/(We Belong Together) Alive Set III E2: Go Comatose U Don't Gimme No Lip Smile Why Go Fuckin' Up Yellow Ledbetter
And Eddie played Last Kiss with a solo acoustic before My Morning Jacket's set. He also played It Makes No Difference with MMJ.

This cover Pearl Jam did of a song by Iz, the guy who did that ballad of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and What A Wonderful World, made me want to revisit Pearl Jam. Where should I start? Besides Ten. Not interested in Ten. The only album I've heard by them is Vitalogy, which wasn't too bad. How is Vs? And Live at Benaroya Hall? (I've actually been to Benaroya Hall, and pass by it when I volunteer in Seattle.) edit: They're cheering so much because Vedder was singing in Hawaiian. He didn't get Iz's last name, Kamakawiwo'ole [trying to learn how to spell it], right and some of the Hawaiian probably wasn't as good as a native speaker, but I thought they did well on it.

If you are not interested in Ten, then Vs. is definitely the choice.

Its very good, but I don't know if it should be your introduction to PJ.
And why aren't you interested in Ten? It has a ton of depth beyond the hit songs.

Mainly, of all the grunge music, Pearl Jam just never interested me. I did check out a bit of Vs, but I couldn't really get into it, so I'll hold it off for a while. What else might you recommend?

Yield is very good, less like grunge if that is what you are trying to avoid.

Listened to Yield, as I had run out of 08 albums. Sounds a lot like Vitalogy. Maybe a bit too much so. Even had a short quirky song... though it did have Do The Evolution. Vitalogy - 4/5 Yield - 3.5/5

Yea they are definitely pretty similar. Vitalogy has a bit too much filler for me though...
