"NIN surprises us with an unexpected self-released album: almost 2 hours / 36 instrumental tracks described as "music for daydreams." Available as a $5 download, or a FREE album-length download, as well as a variety of physical configurations" ghosts.nin.com/

Thats awesome, I'm going to download now......Unfortunately, the site is down right now, so I can't listen. Still, I assume that it will be up within the next few hours.

Nice. Chris, follow some links and you'll find a link to the official torrent on the Pirate Bay. Really fast download too. First track is not what you'd expect from NIN. (I've heard some of their stuff on the radio, so that isn't a "oh, now I know everything about them" kind of thing.) RYM talk uses words like shoegazing and Sigur Ros. You decide.

I just got my copy of I, its very diverse. Some of the tracks are laid back, other have moments of spastic freakout. Overall, its decent stuff, though not on the level of The Downward Spiral or Fragile.

I figure I will download it. I'm not really a fan, but that is only because I haven't listened to them before.

I figure I will download it. I'm not really a fan, but that is only because I haven't listened to them before. Best way to go. It's easy to say you dislike a band, but until you've listened to some of their albums, you can't really say you honestly dislike them. Maybe you just haven't given them a proper amount of time. Perhaps they are too challenging for you. But that doesn't apply here, so I'll shut up.

I'm not saying I dislike them. I'm just saying that I don't know because I have never listened to them before. I want to now, though. So I'll do that and let you know what I think later.

"But that doesn't apply here, so I'll shut up." Basically, my last post was just my musings on why people don't like some music. For example, it seems like not too many people like Maroon 5, yet I've heard more of their music than just a single or two on the radio, and they're not too bad. I even saw a group photo and one is a Zappa fan. None too bad.

The only thing I didn't like was this:
NIN provided Ghosts I officially, but not II through IV. Sure, some people will buy them, but you're on the same site where you can get the rest of the album. If you know anything at all about bittorrenting, you're going to download everything. Why NIN just doesn't provide all four on the same torrent, instead of splitting things up and letting unofficial torrents take care of the whole shebang, is slightly confusing. But I guess it's better than most musician's opinions on piracy. Hell, if I couldn't download the album, I'd wait until I could borrow it from the library. Free or free. Either way, Reznor, I'm not paying your ass a cent until I know I really like the product you've put on the market. When/if I do, then we'll talk business, until then, I get free samples.

^Reznor knows about torrents, he was a member of Oink supposedly, I don't think he really cares if people get this album without paying. But he at least has to try to make money doesn't he?

True, and it is possible he was a member of Oink. Everyone except for me was, and that's including eeeeeeveryone. It's just the whole morality thing. Reznor provides the first part free, but the rest he says you should buy, but the rest are readily available to download. Kind of makes it seem like I'm going against his wishes or something, I don't know. Heard all four. Was three really noise oriented, or was that just me? I overall enjoyed the entire thing, but I can't remember any standout scenes at the moment. I definitely liked how none of the songs were named, though, like ( ) by Sigur Ros. ;D
