Thought that he should get his own thread instead of lumping him in with Miyazaki. Anyway, just watched... Only Yesterday (Isao Takahata; 1991) I had been meaning to see this film for a while now, and it didn't disappoint. The movie centers around Teiko, who is taking a vacation out in the country, and for some reason this brings back memories of when she was ten years old. The subjects of memory, nostalgia, everything comes up, and it makes her question how she currently lives her life. The characters are so well defined here. When Teiko has another flashback, you feel as though you're be thrust back into a familiar world. Ultimately, it's a film about change, the changes in Teiko's life when she was ten, and the changes that are occuring in the present. This film is a wonderful meditation on life, love, and memory. 10/10

I don't think I have much to contribute with here. Anime is not my cup of tea (although I'm not that close-minded that I just ignore every film that comes out from the creators creativity...)

My Neighbours the Yamadas is the most underrated Ghibli film. A wild mix of Peanuts, Ozu and acid.

i watched only yesterday and it was really great, although i didn't think it was a 10/10 like ptahole thought. i do think grave of the fireflies is better than anything miyazaki ever did (out of what i have seen). it is probably the best animated film ever made (in my opinion).

I'm not sure I can agree with your opinion, there.

I probably disagree, too, but I can see where someone would think that way.

I like Princess Mononoke more, and that's about it.

Surprisingly? It's fantastic, and I expected it to be.

Pom Poko is surprisingly really really great. I'm not too interested in movies about cutesy anthropomorphic animals, so I was surprised.
