Put your favorite punk bands here. Any type of punk is allowed from hardcore stuff like the Sex Pistols or pop punk trash like Blink 182.

The aforementioned bands are amazing. The Clash is my favorite. Other stuff.... I like the Misfits a lot, even if their fans piss me off. The Decendants are really cool. The Jam.... Buzzcocks, Circle Jerks.... For more recent stuff, I like some more obscure stuff. The A.K.A.s (local band) are pretty cool.

I hate pop punk so much. The only good band to come out of the movement is Green Day. All pop punk bands do is pose. Thats what they are about. They pretend they are hardcore punks, but their melodys are so cotton candy like and they can barely play their instruments. GOD, mainstream music has gone downhill so much. I can't stand it. Can someone make something original please? And the bands that do make original stuff never get airplay.

Well, they obviously dont get airplay as I was saying. They are original, but you never hear a song of theirs on the radio. All you hear is Simple Plan.

NoFx! Their war on errorism album was pretty average though. They have a new album out, wonder what its like... earlier nofx albums are excellent though.

I was 14 when the original punk explosion hit England in 1976. Best live bands were The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Wire, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Ramones, Generation X...saw them all. Great days.

You are one lucky human being. I wish I could have seen all those bands live. Thanks. Actually, it's more like I am one OLD lucky human being! Great memories though. Me & my mates saw 100's of original punk/new wave bands from 77-82. Highlights include: spending a pissed evening with Billy Idol & friends in 1978; meeting & kissing Chrissie Hynde in 1979; being kicked by Pete Murphy (singer from Bauhaus at a gig in 1981; meeting Rotten, Vicious et al at an Anti-Nazi Rally in Kings Road, London, 1978. An amazing era, although it all seems pretty unreal now.

I would have loved to live in the 70's. Living now is a drag. You are not old by the way. Old is in your 70's and 80's. You are about half that.

Your'e too kind. Living in the 70's in northern England was actually pretty tough but I'm glad to have experienced all that I have. BTW I spent a couple of weeks hiking through Pennsylvania in 1986 on my way to LA, Tahiti & Australia (sort of a taking a year out kind of thing). I adored Philadelphia but also got immensely excited about passing through places like Mingo Junction, where some of The Deer Hunter was filmed. Met some great people.
Respect man!

I have been so into punk recently, can't believe no one mentioned Black Flag, or a band I have been totally digging these past two days, X-Ray Spex. I need to make a movie with an all punk soundtrack.

I don't really like any of the newer pop punk. I really, REALLY love The Sex Pistols, but that's about it. There are some really nice obscure bands but I can't really remember their names, or if they even fall under this category, for that matter.

The Dead Kennedys are where 90% of rock bands got all of their tricks from. You can hear Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables' direct influence on System of a Down, for example.

Yes, Jello's voice is just insane. I can definitely see that now that you point it out. I need to pick up Fresh Fruit even though I have all the songs on my computer already.

mixed mentioned NoFX, which is essential punk for me. 'Heavey Petting Zoo' is so fucking punk. I listened to Less Than Jake when 'losing streak' came out in '96, but they were more ska oriented. Pennywise is good ska/punk, as well as The Descendents 'Everything Sucks".
