1. Raging Bull (1980) 2. Offret [The Sacrifice] (1986) 3. Viskningar och rop [Cries and Whispers] (1972) 4. La dolce vita (1960) 5. Werckmeister harmóniák (2000) 6. Rosetta (1999) 7. Woman Under the Influence, A (1974) 8. Andrei Rublyov (1969) 9. Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) 10. Days of Heaven (1978) 11. Espíritu de la colmena, El [The Spirit of the Beehive] (1973) 12. Såsom i en spegel [Through A Glass Darkly] (1961) 13. George Washington (2000) 14. Dead Man (1995) 15. Le Fils [The Son] (2002) 16. Hoop Dreams (1994) 17. Easy Rider (1969) 18. Ma nuit chez Maud [My Night At Maud's] (1969) 19. Woodstock : 3 jours de musique et de paix (1970) 20. Vacances de M. Hulot, Les [M. Hulots Holiday] (1953) Yea. Amazing list! I am so glad you still have Raging Bull on your list, most people would have taken it off thinking it wasn't good enough, but it really is. I have it like number 5 on mine! Obviously numbers 5, 7, and 8 are all great. George Washington is one of the best films ever; it just barely falls out of my top 20. I can't wait to re-watch the film. I also applaud you for including Hoop Dreams and Easy Rider; neither gets enough respect, especially from film fans. Both are very deserving of spots on your list. And I look forward to seeing many more off your list.

Obviously numbers 5, 7, and 8 are all great. Yes, Raging Bull seems to be one of those Pulp Fiction/Citizen Kane/Casablanca type films. They are great movies, but I feel like some people wont include these films on their lists nowadays since they feel that those are too typical. They want to be creative and want to impress. Im not that person, Raging Bull is the greatest 2 hours I can spend in my life in front of a television. In other words, I agree with what you say about people not feeling Raging Bull is good enough for their lists. BTW, I would like to change #20 to The New World by Malick. I watched this with my mom, and she said it was "OK", one week after we watch The Family Stone, which got a "BRILLIANT." Geez. Thanks for the praise. ;D

Fascinating list... I agree, Raging Bull is utterly brilliant, and it's right outside my top 20. I don't know if I agree on what you say about people thinking Raging Bull is among those "too typical", though. I think many people, film lovers included, find it somewhat boring. Therefore they think, or just say, that it's a great film, but do not include it on their top list. Quite many on you'r list I haven't seen, though, but I'm so happy to see that Viskningar och rop gets some well-deserved attention and praise.

Raging bull is a great film with superb performances and memorable moments. It does sag in parts though and it does have a certain plainess to it I feel. I dont think I'd even put it in my top 50.

I agree. By the way, knock off the number twenty and add Naked somewhere and you have my new list.

# 2 so quickly? Damn, it took months for Seven Samurai to finally get the # 1 spot on my list...you're not even gonna give it a night or two to sleep on it, let it sink in?

I dont think so. You have no idea how much this film has effected me. I have been questioning my beliefs in God and religion for an extremely long time. The way that one film has been able to solidify those beliefs for me just amazes me completely. There is no way I can't put this film in my top five immediately. You would understand if you realize how much my faith has troubled me.

I understand what you're saying. I've also had the "left me in awe" syndrome with some movies, like the sheer emotion of Ikiru, the incomparable direction of Mulholland Dr., the cynicism of Sunset Blvd. (seeing as how I've been called incredibly cynical by just about everyone I know), and most of all, the constant orgasm of awesomeness of Once Upon a Time in the West. All of these went in my top 20 after my first viewing. They (and maybe some more i can't think of) just touched a cord in a way other movies didn't.

Hana-Bi, Wings of Desire, 2001, Spring, Sonatine and La Dolce Vita get the thumbs up from my holiness. I want to see The Spirit of the Beehive but its reputation has scared me off a little.
