I think he meant women, but whatever, I'll do the men too.
Takeshi Kitano - Zatoichi Jeremy Irons - Dead Ringers Christopher Walken - The Deer Hunter Kyle MacLachlan - Twin Peaks (yeah, I know it's not a movie) Dennis Hopper - Blue Velvet Al Pacino - Scarface Robert De Niro - Raging Bull
That's all I can think of at the moment.

My two favorites: Brigitte Fossey in Forbidden Games - Best kid performance ever, hands down. Gena Rowlands in A Woman Under the Influence - Her performance is so draining I can hardly watch it. She is a very underrated actress.

Man I forgot to mention Kitanos performance in sonatine in the men performance thread. And Dennis hopper in blue velvet... Anyhoo, the women...I always find this harder as I always think of best male performances moreso but I'll try.... Katherine Hepburn - A joy to watch in the african queen as I tightass who changes throughout the film, I also forget to mention how great bogart is in that film. Ooh and also how great Woody allen is in Manhattan. Stephane Audran is very good in le boucher and ingrid bergman in spellbound and Faye Dunaway in chinatown and Joan Fontaine in Rebecca Ooh back to male performances.... Fred Macmurray in double indemnity and Edward G robinson in double. Also Edward norton in fight club and Kenji watanabe in Ikiru and Victor Sjostrom in wild strawberries and Max Von Sydow in Pelle the conqueror oh and Fay Wray in king kong and Harriet Andersson in cries and whispers... Ok so that was a very scatterbrain post, but I though it worked.... ;D Oh and de niro in the godfather part 2 and christopher walken in the deer hunter... Ok enough now ;D

F**kin' A (to quote Chuck Asperegren). The whole cast of The Deer Hunter are superb. It's also De Niro's best performance. Yes, better than Raging Bull & King of Comedy.

The Deer Hunter was the film that introduced me to De Niro. I first saw it in about 1980 when I was 18 & it (and he) blew me away. I realise that the script is flawed & it stretches the imagination somewhat, but the emotional force of the film completely grabbed me & has not let go since. Best film ever about friendship &, yes, I think De Niro's best performance. Saying that, what is'nt he good in? Godfather II is *****/***** & is in my top 5.
